Late Emerging In-State Prospect

Last December, a linebacker recruit at Lakewood (Colo.) High by the name of Joe Hemschoot went from sleeper to blue-chipper in the matter of weeks as soon as he began sending out his senior film. Hemschoot chose Stanford over offers from Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State and Northern Colorado.

This December, Lakewood High lineman Jake Jones is hoping that his senior film will provide a similar boost to his recruiting stock.

"Jake would love to go to CU," he [defensive coordinator John Bacon] added. "He understands the whole coaching situation and he is not scared by it. He is more anxious to kind of check out the black and gold."

Jake Jones played for Green Mountain not Lakewood, and seeing how I played for Green Mountain I'd say Rivals is a bit off unless he transferred for his senior year.

Rivals does have "Green Mountain" in the profile for Jones. Strange that it was written differently in that article.

CUB12 - did you watch Jones play at all? Hear anything about him through the grapevine?

Yeah I watched him play quite a bit and his brother who played was the same year as me so I could probably find out pretty easily.

He has a lot of talent, ever since midget league he has always had size on everybody else, he was on one of the GM teams that won the Carnation Bowl. He's probably not going to get any taller I'd say he's a legit 6'4" 285 though, GM doesn't have a very good weight room so he has room to grow.

Greg Brown used to be a coach at GM back in the day so if he is truly on Embree's staff that could help land Jake.

Jones has picked up offers to Air Force and Wyoming. Good to see another Colorado kid getting a D1 scholarship. We'll see whether CU has a spot for him or not with our limited 2011 class size.

Then Rivals picture is wrong. Those are Lakewood jerseys (orange and black) and since you went to GM you would know that their colors are black and yellow.

He looks like human targeting missile... he flattens one guy and is looking for the next. Seems to move well when pulling and seems to handle a "speed" rush in the passing game. Clearly, he is most accustomed to run blocking. He might be a personal foul machine however... plays angry.

Film said Lakewood... jersey says Lakewood... I think its Lakewood.

Green Mountain runs a pretty heavy run balanced offense not quite like Columbine however, he does have a mean streak and it will be interesting to see how much he grows in the weight room because GM's is very poor quality. He would definitely need a redshirt year.

Him and his family are fans of CU so if CU were to offer they would be in pretty good shape.

Really? Because this Jake Jones clearly plays for Lakewood.

He transferred to Lakewood for his senior year, but played at GM for his first 3 years, the profile must have gotten messed up because he would have had to sit out 4 games I believe? And he is very interested in CU if they offer.

That explains it. Thanks.

I don't see him being big enough to be a linemen for CU. Maybe more of a end depending on his speed or a DT.
If Embree is pulling scholarships for better players, I don't see him offering. There will be some surprises soon imo. Specifically at running back. Who wouldn't want to be coached by EB with an endorsement from AP? I think we will see a small class that rates high. Momentum, the big MO. The list gets published in early February.

I've heard from his brother that he is not very interested in going to Air Force for what it's worth.

I wonder why CSU wouldnt be all over this kid by now. Is there any grade issues? Character? Just askin'.

If it comes down to a choice, he should go to Wyoming. They're historically better than CSU and have beaten them the past couple years. Crushed them in 2010, actually. And the Cowpokes make at least as strong of a commitment to recruiting Colorado kids these days as CSU does.

Yeah, but then you have the Laramie factor. The place is a ****hole. I'd rather go to CSU.

He's a smart kid, doesn't look it but he has good grades as far as I know. He's a good character kid never been in trouble or anything like that. I think the reason he's not being recruited much is he played 3 years for GM and had 2 coaches in that time frame when we were just awful so he didn't get much recognition. Lakewood isn't much better but they at least had a good year. He's the complete opposite of the last G play to commit to CU, Bill Boyer who was a gentle giant and had a learning disability. Jake is a lot like Ryan Olson if anyone remembers him who also played for GM.

My memory is bad, but didn't Ryan Olsen switch to the DL while he was here in Boulder?
