Keanu Reeves lookalike?

Burnette is already signed and in school, so they aren't changing their mind there.

I think taking 3 in any class, especially this small of one would be odd. But one is a Juco with 2 years here. I don't see anything strange with taking the best 17 guys they can get. Especially if they think he's a possible big time player in the future.

Concord High quarterback Ricky Lloyd has set records but has been overlooked by Pac-10 recruiters

Ricky Lloyd sits in a pitch-dark classroom at Concord High, arms propped on a front-row desk.

The beam of light coming from an overhead projector illuminates his white headband, and it's obvious from Lloyd's posture that his focus is trained on studying the various defenses he'll see tonight from opponent Rancho Cotate-Rohnert Park.

It's a common high school scene coming from a highly uncommon talent.

Lloyd enters tonight's North Coast Section Division II championship game as not only the best quarterback in the East Bay, but statistically the top passer in California this season.

I love the production and he may very well be a great prospect. But we've already signed a JUCO quarterback and accepted a verbal from a high school QB. I don't see a lot of difference between Lloyd and Dorman.

Anyone have a theory on how it could make sense to take another QB who isn't some 5* all-world type guy?

cold feet on one of the current guys? not liking the concept of just Hansen and hirschman on schollie if we have qualification issues? Hirschman gone, moved or not any good?

Only thing I can think of is if there is some attrition coming at the QB position and they are going to want more depth. Still a bit of a head scratcher.

Burnette is enrolled already, so it would have to be Stevie Dorman.

The simplest explanation is that the tweet about CU trying to flip Ricky Lloyd is stale information from a couple weeks ago.

The next simplest explanation is that the staff likes both Stevie and Ricky and would have them compete or maybe one of them is willing to grayshirt so they'd take both and get their 2012 guy early.

That's just not a move I'd agree with, so I'm grasping at straws.

Once we get past that, we're into speculation of some undisclosed injury, transfer, suspension or other something I'm not thinking of that made it necessary to add another quarterback for the 2011 season.

I don't think this has anything to do with the current guys. I think it has everything to do with the fact that in football, if you don't have a great QB or even a good one, you're going to suck ass.

IMO Tyler Hansen absolutely does not fit what Embree is looking for, a tall, strong armed accurate passer who is good at reading the defense and hitting his check downs. He's an athletic guy who can sort of make plays but his accuracy is all over the board. I don't think he starts more than half the season next year, if that.

I think Hirshman has a good arm, but is a poor athlete and doesn't have any snaps under his belt.

Burnette has collegiate snaps, a strong arm but has been to two schools previously. It's not indicative of what he can be, just a flag, thats all.

Dorman looks just like Hirshman did on tape, only he did it against much higher competition.

I haven't watched film on Floyd yet but I imagine he's a quality QB with a decent arm.

Who will be the guy? Who knows, but competition breeds success and there is nothing wrong with that. We need guys competing at the highest level DAILY to cultivate the guy who can take snaps for us this fall. If that's a vet great. If that's a JUCO guy, great. If that's a true freshman great. Embree has to put some talent on the field under center. When I played at UH (Univ. of Hawaii) under June Jones, he had 8 GUYS on scholarship at QB every year. EIGHT. Why? Because his system depended on a live armed QB who could move the ball all around to different targets, up and down the field. Looks like Coach E is taking that approach too.
