They are f'in awesome when CU is punching ranked teams in the mouth.

But when the team is sucking, that cheer just makes CU fans sound like no-class losers with a potty mouth.

Its stupid and it does embarass the university. I like the letter Bohn sent out and I don't think its asking too much to refrain from F-U (school). Love the F'em up chant at Folsom but the others need to go right along with rushing the GD field after a win unless we knock off a #1 team or win a game that gets us into the CCG.

I voted "I don't care", but being a decade and a half out I guess thats just where I'm at. I think that the administrators and older fans 'should' disapprove, in an official capacity, but frankly I would be disappointed if the student section gave a rat's fart about what we thought. Isn't this the same CU that offered the hugely popular 'deviance in society' class for Freshmen?

How about both of these answers:

I think everyone should discourage them. But I would give students the first chance to come up with something witty and edgy, and if they do, I'll butt out.
But they make us look and sound classless.

I don't really give a **** if they make CU sound "classless." Who the **** cares if other fans think we are "classless."

OU fans end the Star Spangled Banner every single game with home of the "SOONERS!" instead of home of the brave. Is it classless? Sure it is, but it's 80,000 fans screaming and yelling for their team. I would rather have a rowdy crowd than a Sunday brunch crowd, any day.

Yes, the sooners are classless. As I said, smart students would come up with a witty and edgy alternative. Something close to **** 'em up, but funnier.
Take a 9 year old to a game and it takes on a whole 'nother aspect. You just wish it didn't happen. Love the enthusiasm hate the profanity.

I've taken my 8 year old daughter to college football games in several different stadiums, to college basketball games (both men's and women's) and even to high school football and basketball games. Swearing is just a part of the sports world now. I have to explain to my daughter sometimes that there are words that you just don't say when you're a kid - and a lot of what you hear at sporting events is part of it.

The chant itself and what other fans think of it doesn't bother me much. Students will be students, whatever, although pro-CU cheers/chants are a lot more effective than the anti-visitor chants will ever be. For example take the Mizzou game a few weeks ago: Tiger fans started their M-I-Z-Z-O-U chant, only got through it 2 or 3 times before the student section drowned them out with 'LET'S GO BUFFALOES.' Shut the Tiger fans up pretty quick. Now I know that is harder to do when KU is in town, has the lead and 2-3 thousand more fans, but still.

What happened during the moment of silence was what pissed me off.

Speaking as an old ****, I think the "F 'em up, F 'em up, Go CU" cheer is fine. It is generic, and mostly what you hear in the stadium is the "Go CU" part. I'm not a fan of the F [fill in school] cheer. I don't think it is appropriate. However, the harder you try to get them to stop, the more determined they will be to do it. I think it will run it's course in time, and we'll all be better once it goes away.

I totally agree with everyone on the "moment of silence incident". It was boorish, moronic, disrespectful, and any number of adjectives. The moment was not about Kansas, it was about a young man who lost his mother. Completely uncalled for. I equate it to the infamous "Sal's Dead, Go Big Red" banner. Think of how we all felt when we saw that piece of ****. The F KU thing was on line with it for the lowest of classlessness.

It's not a big deal in my book though I'd rather it not occur, but KU fans ask for some hostility with their "Allen Field House West" mentality

Bohn Asks For 'Better Behavior' In Letter To Students

Category: Men's Basketball

University of Colorado Athletic Director Mike Bohn has addressed an inappropriate chant during Tuesday night's Colorado-Kansas men's basketball game with a letter to CU students.

Dear CU Students,

I would like first to thank you for your tremendous support and enthusiasm at our men's basketball games this season. Your excitement has made a significant difference in our home game environment and overall growth and prominence of the program over last couple of years. You are engaged in the game, know basketball and serve as the heartbeat of the contest along with your colleagues in our pep band.

However, I must say how deeply disappointed I and so many other Buff fans were in other aspects of your behavior at the game last night vs. KU. The chanting of expletives at the opposing team is, quite frankly, an embarrassment to our university, athletic department, alumni and our team. We publicly saluted your outstanding sportsmanship and behavior at other marquee games that have been played so far this year. YOU are the generators of the energy that inspires our team and other fans, and that energy has become the envy of our competition.

We know that you know better and YOU should expect better behavior from your fellow students who attend the University of Colorado. A national television audience witnessed our team playing a great game, but was not left with the overall impression of our institution that we aspire to convey. We all yearn for a nationally respected basketball enterprise and we must all contribute to meeting that challenge with continued support and sportsmanship that will attract more fans and outstanding student athletes.

We have a least five more home games that are very important on many levels. We expect all fans to demonstrate the level of class that truly defines the University of Colorado, and to showcase that class for visiting fans in the arena and TV audiences across the nation.

Thank you, and Go Buffs!

Mike Bohn

Director of Athletics

I think it's a pretty solid letter. I hope it doesn't fall on deaf ears. But I would expect that the letter isn't the end of this. Don't be surprised if Boyle records something on sportsmanship for the video screen pre-game. Don't be surprised, if this continues, for the band to stop playing the "F em up, F em up, go CU" music during the game. Bohn and Boyle are serious about this.

I'm sure Greg in Austin would agree that the Erwin center in Austin is the quietest 16,000 seat arena you will ever go to. They put all of the big season ticket holders and donors right around the court and the student section only has a small little piece by the north basket. You see a bunch of balding old farts golf clapping - lame as hell! Hope we can lose the FU chants but I'll take our concrete foam dome and 11k rowdy fans over that any day.

"We have a least five more home games that are very important on many levels."

did Bohn just put us in the NIT?

I thought the same thing when I read that part. The thinking in the AD right now is likely that we'll either slip into the NCAA tourney or be a high enough NIT seed to get home court.

For what it's worth I was sitting at the game with my daughters who are both undergrads at CU. Both said without me even saying anything - "that's embarrassing." And swearing is something they've heard their whole lives, often from me. Point is, there are a lot of students who recognize how that sounds to non-students. (They were sitting in my section, not the student section.)

Mike Bohn's letter was very well done. I'm really glad he stepped up and wrote that.

Not to mention - KU has beaten us like 9 out of 10 times in history. They sounded like spoiled children.

+1 I'd prefer the students take care of it. The kid who allegedly yelled "**** KU" during the moment of silence should have been bitch slapped or something. That makes the entire school look horrible.

I think the "**** 'em up, **** 'em up" chant, however, doesn't come across on television anywhere close to the "bull****....bull****....bull****" call that you hear all the time.

Now you're bitching about the bull**** chant? You want us to just sit there with tea and crumpets instead and not say anything?

Quick, without using a search engine... tell us what a crumpet is. :smile2:

Some British food that my friends mom eats all the time. I know what tea is though.

I was going to rep you if you knew. I think it's some sort of biscuit-like thing.

Then there's the stuff in that spider nursery rhyme I was reading to my boy today. I don't know wtf a tuffet is (or whey, for that matter).
