Boyle wants in-state help to lift Buffs

Not sure what I think about this. There isn't enough talent in CO to 'focus' on. I think Boyle is saying this to make some local coaches happy.

My thoughts exactly. I will say this though - a good college team can help HS talent develop. It draws interest in the sport at younger levels and can breed competition.

But I agree with you, CO bball just doesn't have enough talent. Watch out for Collier at East and potentially Griffin at Kennedy. They're both freshmen, so that class could end up being competitive and good.

I thought it was interesting that the article really didn't ask Boyle about why he left the state as one of the few CO HS bball studs.

I think Boyle's being political, for the most part. But I do believe that he's being honest when he says that when he sees in-state guys on scholarship at places like Boston College and Gonzaga, that those guys should be playing at CU and we need to make sure we get those guys.

I like his attitude, but what's he going to tell recruits when he's trying to convince them to stay home? I made a mistake by playing at KU? I doubt that. It would be fun to hear that recruiting pitch.

We've traditionally ignored the in-state crap in football and basketball - this place produces too much soft trash. We'll be getting more championships with top-rated California talent now.

If he has CU in the tournament every year and competing for PAC 12 championships that conversation probably won't come up. Any recruit who has legit D1 talent and wants to win won't care where Boyle played.

It doesn't seem like CO has that much talent but Boyle needs to build the relationships with the local coaches. We don't know if CU will be recruiting in California much more often in MBB compared to years past. If the Cali kids get off to a fast start, then we will be recruiting the west coast more often than at home in CO.

i think the net effect would be to build local Denver and state support for the program. or: a way to get on page one of the Domique Collier list right off the bat.

indirectly, look at the state of Texas. the SWC wasn't anything special in hoops and the state had sporadic talent but in the last 15 years it's exploded with talent because more kids play the game. I've read on horn boards that people think when the Rockets won their championships in the mid 90's that kids who were being channeled into football since that's how things had always been set up...had new heroes and wanted to dedicate to hoops. The Mavs have been good. Spurs won championships, and it snowballed. i can't speak to that personally and wouldn't exactly call it social science, but kinda makes sense.

if there are mechanisms to get kids on the basketball floor with the institutional "face" of CU hoops....maybe more kids take up the game and the level of play and talent pool go way up. CU could only benefit from it.

Really? He played at Kansas. You know, that all time top 10 program. Its not like he left Colorado to go play at Northwest Arkansas State Technical University.
