Fred Hoiberg picks Corey Higgins to be drafted

At the end of the day he's a guard with decent size, a consistent shot, and the ability to not only get to the line but hit free throws. He won't be a front line guy, but I think Cory could stick on a few rosters as a 7th or 8th man. Throw in the NBA pedigree and I bet a few teams will want to take a flyer on him. I only wish Cory could get the exposure a tournament appearance would afford him and Burks.

Cory can do a lot of different things at NBA level. He can defend 2's and 3's effectively, he can pass the ball well and is willing to do it, he rebounds well for a wing and handles the ball well for a guy his size. A lot of the guys who go into the NBA can't be effective if they aren't scoring the ball. Cory can score the ball but doesn't have to to be an effective player.

In the right situation Cory could have a long and productive career as a supporting type player.

Hoiberg has got good press as a coach so far, despite being 1-6. of course, Greg McDermott was hailed as a great "X and O" guy for years while posting sub .500 seasons in conference. McDermott had some bad luck with transfers and injury but still. I liked a move Hoiberg made for his staff getting former longtime UNC-Charlotte HC Bobby Lutz. Lutz had a couple NCAA teams and won at least game in the NCAA. Lutz was on Melvin Watkins staff at UNCC before Watkins got the ATM job. Watkins was no powerhouse at ATM, but he's been an assistant at Mizzou for years for both Quin and Mike Anderson....and had a lot of success at UNCC. So, Lutz is an experienced guy who was been around winning and the NCAA.

I watched a little of the ISU-OU game on Sat and Hoiberg showed a nice little full court trap to run down a big OU lead. it was a good move. they lost in OT but the trap got OU off-balance and ISU came back from 10 or 12 to take a 6 point lead. didn't see the OT, so don't know what happened there.

Higgins is a very good college player but I don't see him making a huge impact in the NBA. He'll get drafted but probably in the 2nd round, maybe very late 1st round. He won't be able to dribble drive as easily in the NBA and his outside shot still needs work. I see him spending 2 or 3 years on someone's bench then ending up in Europe.

I hope Higgins gets an NBA shot. There are plenty of stiffs in the NBA so it is not too far-fetched that a quality guy like Cory could contribute.

This is what I was thinking. Could see him as an Arron Afflalo type player.
