So you're saying there's still a chance you'll be a Buff next year, Alec? :smile2:

NBADraft.net: I know you’ve said before you aren’t currently giving too much thought to your NBA prospects right now, but when it comes time to figure that all out what will be the major factors in helping you decide whether or not to leave school early?

Alec Burks: The biggest factor in me leaving Colorado is I have to be certified top ten or a lottery pick, if I’m certified top ten or lottery pick I would feel like I’d have to leave, but if I’m not where I feel like I need to be I’ll just come back another year so I can prove everybody wrong so I can get that lottery or top ten spot.

Really good interview. I just took a small part of it. http://www.nbadraft.net/alec-burks-interview

The latest mock draft from that same site has him at 12th right now so things are looking good for us. Its kinda weird rooting for him to do well so the buffs do well, but also not hoping he doesnt play his draft stock up too much

If he takes his game to the next level and becomes a lottery pick, I think that means that the Buffs went on a late season run and made the NCAA Tourney. If that happens, it's good for everyone involved and we'll sign a Top 150 type guy in the spring to replace the scoring while also being in on more highly rated guys in the fall. It's a win for everyone.

Our worst case is that CU doesn't do much over it's last 7, doesn't win a game in the Big 12 tourney, and exits early from the NIT... fizzling out with 19 or 20 total wins... then watch Alec leave for the NBA despite a late first round grade. I think that's the scenario that has us all anxious right now.

Exactly. If we make a run and go to the tourney than its all worth it

Buffnik, you talk about replacing the scoring, this over-all will be a very different team next year. We can play bigger and much more physical, and hopefully Carlon Brown is the contributor/scorer we need while some of the young guys come up.

Problem is that we're looking at replacing our top 4 scorers. Beyond Alec, it's Cory, Marcus and Levi. That's a ton. I love Carlon, but we'll need another guy we can count on for a consistent 15 a night. We'll get 10 from Dre and Austin will step up some nights, but we need a #2 scoring option.

Can't begrudge a man getting paid what he deserves. In my mind he's proven to be better than this level and in need of another challenge, and I wish him well in pursuing his dreams. That said we're going to be hard up next year replacing a combined 60 points, 17 boards and 8 assists if Burks joins the 3 producing seniors in leaving the program.

I too like Carlon Brown, and he did come here for more touches and an opportunity to be the team's primary offensive weapon, however, I don't think he's going to be able to produce enough to make the loss of those 4 palatable. On the plus side, I think Nate is a better scorer than he's shown while the Big 4 have been dropping points like crazy, and I think H-T's return next season might surprise some people with it's offensive impact.

Maybe incoming freshmen Booker, Cain, and Dinwiddie could pick up some offensive slack? I've heard interesting things about Booker, especially.

the size change will be interesting to how the team performs. From Dufault and 4 guards to:

1- Tomlinson
2- Brown
3 - Roberson
4- Dufault
5- SHT

That is a much bigger line up for us to field.

I think Sharpe hasn't regained full confidence with his knee. It wouldn't surprise me if he made a serious run at starting PG next year.

I'm really uncomfortable with referring to Shane as SHT :)

I think/hope that dinwiddle starts over Tomlinson next year. I also think that Cain will give Dufault a fun for his money, but settle in for a 6th man off the bench.

Ralphie Report had a nice blog on the recent high-school tourney in vegas, really came away with the impression Booker was the better player.

If that is the case, that is even better. I was under the impression that Dinwiddle was the big recruit and Booker was a nice addition. It would be nice to grab a good under the radar guy again and have him produce here at CU, it should really help our recruiting down the road as well.

I gotta agree with you, most likely Booker will be our starting PG. I don't think Roberson can play one of the other wing spots and is best inside, hopefully he will put on 10 to 15 and we can have Roberson, Tunks, Cain, Mills and Dufault rotate through the 4-5 spots on the inside. brown has the SG spot locked, our major weakness will be the 3rd guard/SF position, unless Burks leaves then I think we have a solid starting 5, we some lack of depth in our guards.
