The Pacific Palisades Post ran an article on Malcolm Creer and his commitment to CU. LINK

Here's his signing day photo:

It talks about how under-the-radar he was, how he'd been a basketball guy, and how things kind of exploded at the very last.

I love this quote from Creer's mom:

"The thing (Coach Bieniemy) and Coach Embree push is academics," Creer's mother said. "They say, 'You better believe as a football program, we're going to use you. So you better use us. Get your education. Do well in the classroom and the rest will take care of itself'.''

That's a refreshingly honest pitch from recruiters and I love to see it.

You win over moms and you can lure recruits away from far away places. That's the only way you are going to eventually start taking away recruits from USC, UCLA, Cal and Texas. Just the way it is. Moms are crucial.

Well, that's what Hawk said, at least.

Yep. And this is why it is so critical to get our APR issues behind us. Under Hawkins, it was kind of weird. We set team GPA records, but that was because we had a group of incredible students at the top. The bottom was getting left behind and always on the brink of failing out. I'd love it if we could sell moms on having one of the highest APRs and highest graduation rates in the Pac-12. It will make a difference once Embree has the hard data from his program that backs him up when he says to mom that her son will graduate if he comes to play for CU.

The lifeblood of our program is top athletes who are looking for an opportunity in life and see Boulder as a place where they can get away from the hood and make that happen. The academic message needs to reinforce that.

This is something that Dan Hawkins never understood about CU and a big part of his failure, imo.

I will say that I've noticed in the past few weeks since the semester has started more twitters about doing homework. I saw some in the past but not really until finals week - Hopefully we will see some improvement in the spring as far as grades go. Like Nik said, it would be a great sell for future recruits and I know that both EB and Embree are smart enough to realize this.
