In-state recruiting 2012

It has been mentioned in other threads, but the 2012 in-state class is shaping up to be a very solid collection of talent. Several players have already snagged multiple BCS offers. Even better, CU seems to be in good position for several of these players.

Clay Norgard: The first commitment of the 2012 class and is likely to enroll early next January. The new coaching staff really had to win him over, but were able to do it pretty quickly. He only had a CU offer at the time of his commitment, but I think some schools really wondered if they stood a shot against CU so they were going to wait before offering.

Cyler Miles: Offers from CU, Arizona State, Baylor, Illinois, Notre Dame, Utah, Vanderbilt, and Washington. Think he will get attention from other Pac-12 schools as the summer approaches. He is the one in-state player I am not very confident in landing.

Paul Thurston: He is arguably the top player in the state and is piling up offers from programs all over. He currently holds offers from CU, Arizona State, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Stanford, and Utah. I really like our chances here and think it is likely he will be a commitment by or on Junior Day.

Shane Callahan: Last Fall, it appeared that Callahan might be the top prospect for the in-state class in 2012. It has not quite worked out that way, but Callahan is still a very good prospect. He currently holds offers form CU, Arizona, Michigan, and Utah. I like our chances here, although a Notre Dame offer could change things. In the end, I think Callahan will take his time with the process and will be a late-summer commit at the earliest.

Evan Baylis: He is a prospect that seemingly flew under the radar for a while, but is certainly getting major attention now. He currently holds offers from CU, Arizona, Boise State, CSU, and Michigan. I think there is a good chance that Baylis is a commitment by or on Junior Day.

Alex Kozan: The type of player that CU might have slow-played in the past. Right now, he has offers from CU, Arizona State, and Kansas State. Kozan is another player I could see committing on or by Junior Day.

Overall, I think CU is in a great position with the Colorado prep players for the 2012 class. We should be able to land 4-5 of the above players and perhaps any late bloomers.

You will also notice that several of the same schools are popping up: Arizona, Arizona State, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Utah.

-Arizona's tie to Colorado is former Grandview High School and Buffs standout Ryan Walters. -Arizona State's ties to Colorado include former Buffs assistant Craig Bray and Scott Brown, recently hired away from CSU.
-Notre Dame's tie to the state is former Colorado Springs resident and CSU star player/assistant coach Tony Alford.
-Michigan's tie to the state is Fort Collins native and former CSU player/assistant coach Darrell Funk.
-Utah's ties to Colorado seem mostly due to proximity.

Good stuff!

Starting to look like a good in-state class this year. Maybe a bit top heavy, but that's not a big concern as long as we're taking the best guys.

I think calling it top-heavy is a fair statement. After the six players mentioned, there is a pretty sizable drop-off. The early offers reinforce what we already knew though-Colorado produces good linemen, good skill players are a little harder to find.

Wow we are really going to land at least 4 of those players? Coach Embree is Winning. :smile2:

These are the 2012 in-staters that currently have interest in CU according to Rivals:

I think calling it top-heavy is a fair statement. After the six players mentioned, there is a pretty sizable drop-off. The early offers reinforce what we already knew though-Colorado produces good linemen, good skill players are a little harder to find.

But it seems like a month or so ago you said it was a big drop-off after the top 3. So if those numbers double every month until signing day... :smile2:

Thanks for the info as always....5/6 on that list would be a major win for the Buffs in Colorado, as they should be doing every year

I'll do my part to rep the buffs at the Mullen games I'm at....maybe try to sit next to Miles parents :smile2:

Windsor offensive tackle Joey O'Connor now has offers from Penn State and the CSEwes.
OLT/DLT 6'5/283lbs.

No idea what CU's interest level is, but here's a taste:

FYI, here is a pretty extensive article about O'Connor:

Sounds like Penn State wants to see him at their camp first before offering, which is pretty impressive for a kid at a 3A school in Colorado. I think CSU is sitting in a really good spot with him right now.

Not sure there is a whole lot of interest on either side between him and CU, may be wrong though.

Another instate kid with CU interest - not sure if mutual or not.

Isaiah Hendrix, all purpose back, Denver East. Class of 2012.

Was one of Rivals Ultimate 100 standouts under "also impressed." link

Just a quick update.

Baylis is up to seven offers: CU, Arizona, Boise State, Duke, Indiana, Michigan, and CSU.

Kozan is up to six offers: CU, Arkansas, Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas, and Kansas State.

Still feel really good about all of the in-state prospects we have offered, sans Miles. I think Kozan might be the next to pull the trigger, but who knows. These kids are getting pretty serious attention from all over.

With Junior Day only a week away, now is a good time to update this thread. This class is still looking pretty strong, although very top heavy with linemen.

Clay Norgard: He was the first commitment of the class and will be at Junior Day to talk up CU.

Tyler Henington: His commitment took just about everyone by surprise, but he was offered shortly after sending his tape out. He is a solid commitment, but I expect some more schools to come calling.

Cyler Miles: He currently has offers from the following schools: CU, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Illinois, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Utah, Vanderbilt, and Washington. Still a hard recruitment to read because he has been very deliberate during interviews. Still do not have a good feeling about him in the end. He did visit CU earlier this week, not sure if he is planning on being at Junior Day or not.

Paul Thurston: He currently has offers from the following schools: CU, Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford, and Utah. He is planning on making some trips over the next couple months to Nebraska, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Michigan. He is a likely Junior Day attendee for the Buffs and I still feel he will be a Buff, but it might be sometime this summer before he decides.

Shane Callahan
: His recruitment is starting to pick up a bit more as he now has offers from the following schools: CU, Arizona, Auburn, Michigan, Utah, and Vanderbilt. He recently visited Auburn and likes Grimes, but I think the Buffs are in a good spot here. Would not be at all surprised to see him commit at Junior Day or shortly thereafter.

Evan Baylis: He offer list is approaching the double digits with the following schools involved: CU, Arizona, Boise State, Colorado State, Duke, Indiana, Michigan, Stanford, and Utah. He recently visited Boise State and is set to visit Michigan, Oregon, and Stanford soon. He will be at Junior Day next Saturday and is looking to make a decision sometime this summer. Think the chances are good for us here.

Alex Kozan: He is also approaching double digit offers with the following schools involved: CU, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, and Syracuse. He recently stopped by practices at Wisconsin and Illinois, no word on whether he will be at Junior Day next Saturday. Thought for a while he was a pretty much a CU lock, but now I am not so sure. He seems to like each and every school that shows interest. Look for a decision sometime this summer.

Arthur Flores
: He just recently picked up his first three offers: CU, Central Florida, and Utah. He will be attending Junior Day next Saturday. Tough to get a read this early since he just picked up offers, but he seems willing to wait it out for a while.

There are other prospects like Nate Shepherd, Joey O'Connor, Kevin Davis, and Jordon Vaden receiving varying levels of interest from CU, but they might need to earn offers at camps this summer.

Overall, I really like our chances with Thurston, Callahan, and Baylis. Kozan and Flores are a bit hard to read right now. Landing Miles will take some work. But we are poised for a very nice in-state haul in the 2012 class. JD Brookhart is making an immediate impact, as he is the assistant assigned to Colorado.

Is it me, or is there a wealth of OL talent in Colo this year? We're not even talking about some of the late-bloomers, etc., yet.

Apparently 2 more Valor players have BCS offers. DE Michael Mann has an offer from ASU and Max McCaffrey has offers from Duke and Wake Forest. Also, Kevin Smith received an offer from CSU
