CU recruits get thumbs up

Real excited about this class....think we definitely have a few immediate impact players that get everyone jazzed up about the NCAA Tourney again next year

From what I can, tell this last class was awesome. I don't follow bball, but pulling top players out of Cali has to be a good sign.

What makes it even better is that we now have a coach with a track record of developing the talent he has had.

We keep seeing people speculate about the Buffs taking a step backwards next year. Losing Higgins, Relephorde, Knutson, and most likely Burks doesn't make this an unreasonable thought. At the same time I get a feeling that this team is going to surprise some people next year. They guys that Boyle brought in this year and the Fr. coming in next year look to be quality players. We may have a slow start next year as the team gets readjusted again but I would not be surprised if we are in contention for tourney play again.

might take a step back? MTN you are some times a little delusional. We lose everything our leading re-bounder per game, and we are coming off a record season for CU hoops:

Top four in minutes played? gone
Top four scorers? gone
2 of top 3 re-bounders? gone
3 of top 4 in assists? gone
our 4 best free-throw shooters? gone

all-american? gone
lottery pick? gone
potential nba free-agent? gone

and we are going to replace this with?
- a guy who blew out his knee
- an unproven juco
- carlon brown
- some freshmen

And oh by-the-way we play more conference games next yer.

I'm not saying that we are going to win the conference or something crazy next year, I acknowledged that we lose a lot, even if Burks stays we lose a lot.

All I am saying is that I don't buy the predictions that we are going to fo sub-.500 or drop of the map again. We lose the guys mentioned but we aren't entirely devoid of talent. We get Carlon Brown off his RS year, he is already a proven scorer at a big-time level and all reports are that he will be a player. We get Harris-Trunks back so we have a legit center. This lets Dufault go to his natural PF position. Mills showed some flashes as well and with a year of development could be a contributor (even though I would like to see him RS.) Roberson will be a year older, more physically developed and could be a significant player (makes up for losing your leading rebounder, Roberson could become a game changer.) Sharpe was also showing real promise near the end of the season, again with an off-season of work he should be markedly better.

You can never count on true freshmen but we have also seen all over college basketball true freshmen coming in and contributing. With the talent of the incoming class this is a real posibility.

Again I am not saying that next years team will be a great team but with Boyles proven coaching ability and the talent we have coming back a return to the NIT should not be out of the question and if they stay healthy and some guys come through an at-large to the NCAA is not impossible, especially playing in a weaker league.

Look man, I agree with lots of what you say, but an NCAA bubble team should not be the expectation. I understand that optimism might reign right now, but just don't get too disappointed if we're more of a .500 team next season. I too don't think we're devoid of talent next year, but I'm expecting a .500 season...against a decent Pac 12 (I for one think the Pac 12 will be better next season).

You seem to put a lot of stock in Roberson improving leaps and bounds. I thought he outplayed his abilities last season, and while he should improve his offensive repertoire, I don't think there's really a high ceiling for his development. I do not consider him a game changer (someone that can take over a game), nor do I think we can expect Sharpe to greatly improve. He has a lot more potential in my opinion, but he hasn't shown a ton during games.

Our freshmen will help, but expecting freshmen to help carry a team is not wise. I think Cain and one of the guards will see extended minutes, but none of them will have the impact Burks did as a freshman in my opinion. I think Cain and Dinwiddie have the chance to be real special in starting late soph/start of junior seasons.

Back on topic though - this article is great. I'm excited to see these kids - while I think Cain and Dinwiddie seem more ready...I think Booker's potential is really high. I am disappointed that Cain is only 6-5/6-6...but whatever...if he plays big, he can overcome that in college.

I can't believe how well UCONN and Kentucky did this year with all the freshman playing on those teams.

So, today is the first day after the dead period. I heard Boyle imply that he was going to sign at least one more guy. Whats the word?

As of right now we have no scholarships left to give out. Obviously if Burks or someone else were to leave that would change and we would likely try to add another player to the 2011 class. We probably wont know on Burks until May 8 which puts our staff in a tough spot because some prospects may not want to wait around to see if we have a scholarship or not. The pickings are kind of slim right now and there only going to be worse in a month.

If Burks knows he's leaving, it's best for us if he immediately signs with an agent.

Id prefer he didint hire an agent based on the possibility that he might change his mind, even if this meant missing out on an '11 prospect. Its a calculated risk.

Well, I doubt Burks knows anything at this point, given the uncertainty of the NBA CBA situation. But there could be others on the team, aside from AB, considering leaving. You just do not know. I don't think that just because we've given out all our "apparent available" scholarships that we would not still give one to a great prospect.

I'd hold that scholarship until the next recruiting cycle unless there's a kid that just blows he doors off. That seems very unlikely. Anybody who we give that scholarship to this year would likely redshirt or be at the end of the bench anyway, so he wouldn't add any depth to the team. If they can turn that scholarship into a more productive player in the next cycle, they'd be wise to do so.

Dylan Talley and Leantwan Luckett would be worth scholarships. Both might be better then any of the players we have signed thus far.

We found Dre Roberson late last year. There's talent out there.

The problem is that with higgins, burks, levi, and relphorde gone we are in for a major step back next year (just what the program does not need) unless we can get some new players in.

We have new players coming in. I realize basketball recruiting is a different animal than football recruiting. Gaps occur more frequently and are harder to fill. Just the same, I'd prefer to hold that scholarship until the next year in the hopes that we could turn it into a higher caliber player than what is likely to be available now.

A class of 2013 player to keep an eye on is TJ's 6'6" Jr to be Eric Andres. Averaged 14/8 as a soph last season. The first time I saw him as an 8th grader at Hamilton, he got the tip, which went to his brother, broke for the basket and got the ball back for the alley-oop. Quite an advanced 8th grader.
