Pac-12 basketball: Projecting the 2011-12 league race

10. Colorado: In addition to (presumably) losing Burks, the Pac-12 newcomers must make due without No. 2 scorer Cory Higgins and several other quality players. But Tad Boyle becomes one of the best four or five coaches in the conference the day the Buffs officially join.

(Note: If Burks returns to school, move the Buffs to No. 5, ahead of Stanford. He ’s that good.)

I wouldn't agree that Cal was horrible, and they return essentially everybody off of last year's team. You finish 5th in a league and return everyone you should move up in the preseason standings; it makes sense.

Additionally, Mike Montgomery is a hell of a coach.

Umm, we beat Oregon St. by 25 this year. Arizona, Washington and UCLA seem to be the only teams that would clearly be ahead of us if Burks doesn't come back.

FWIW, my "totally pulled right out of my ass" projections have us finishing 3rd with Burks (13-5), 6th or 7th without him (9-9).

Sendek seems to have lost all momentum at ASU if they are going to be that bad next year. they were a disappointment last season as well, IIRC from preseason stuff.

Those projections are odd...Cal at #2 and Oregon St surprise me. I think UCLA and UW fight it out for the top spot.

I think we finish 7-8, assuming Burks leaves. Even if he comes back, I think we finish about 4-6. The Pac 10 is underrated right now in my opinion - there's some decent talent coming back next season and some quality coaches. Watch out for Oregon next season - not saying they're winning the league by any means, but they will be competitive.

iirc, uofa has some pieces back and a steller recruiting class. They're my pick to win the conference next year -- if they can beat the Buffs.
