Can't wait.

Long time coming, but it's the right time. So many parallels with where the program is now. It's going to be worth the wait.

Wow. That's a story that needs to be told and hopefully it gets some good coverage. Seems tailor-made for one of those ESPN spots.

I remember this piece, but if we can have 60 minutes of self congratulations for Tha U and the Fab 5, then I think Sal can get more than 10 minutes on outside the lines. I am suggesting that they really develop the documentary a bit more.

that was the most amazing time. it was, without a doubt, the series of events that made me the diehard fan i am today.

there was so much hope around the program and then sal got sick. it was like a kick in the nuts to the entire CU fanbase and, i am sure, much, much worse for folks in and around the program.

when sal died and CU went out and just absolutely destroyed uw, it was such a statement game. it was incredible. at that point, you could just feel it. ... a team of destiny.

the lowest lows that season, and some of the highest-highs. i doubt we'll ever feel like that again.

the loss to the irish really hurt. it hurt on a level that i can't really express... it was more than just a game. it especially sucked the way CU lost that orange bowl. lou holtz miked up at the half time saying that CU was "living a lie" and would be exposed in the second half. that really stung.

90 was all about finishing the job. somehow, Coach Mac kept the team dialed-in and carried the emotion through the 90 season. amazing. CU started 1-1-1 in 90. all of the pundits said our dreams were crushed. no effing way. i BELIEVED. everyone i know who is a CU fan BELIEVED. with about 4 weeks left in the season, we were only ranked about 10th in the country and there were a ton of undefeated teams ahead of us. i sat there with my fellow CU friends and we looked at the schedules and debated who would lose when and how it would all come together to propel CU to a shot at the title. some of my non-CU friends and family thought we were literally delusional. but, IT ALL HAPPENED. every single game that needed to break our way did in that last month of the season.

and the title game... my god, what a rollercoaster.

that was the best 2 years of CU football to date, imho. sure, 94 was awesome and the 94 team had more talent. and, 2001 was pretty damned great. but, 89-90 was magical. it was pure.

Missed opportunities in the 1990 Orange Bowl, we had a chance to score several times. Eric fumbling deep in Irish territory, Eric diving over and crossing the goaline, but the refs said no TD (yes he was over dammit!) and the fake FG when Soupy couldn't get in the end zone.

We really had a chance to take a big lead into halftime.

Probably should have been 14-0 or 17-0 Buffs at the half, game would have been over. I'm glad they never show that game on ESPN classic or the like because I would be compelled to watch despite how painful it would be.

Soupy getting stuffed:

I remember when he said this! and I will never shed any tears for Holtz when he leaves this earth. What a douche!

A little backstory, spring of 89 was a turbulent time to be a buff. It was my 2nd semester at CU. Folks were still pissed about the unfufilled expectations of the 88 season, losing to OU by 3, NU by 7 and a blowout by Gundy and Hart Lee NCAA violation. People were grumbling about burning Hagan's redshift in the Freedom Bowl loss. Several key players shared their frustrations often during spring conditioning in the frigid Balch fieldhouse.

Then Sports Illustrated ran the "what price glory" article with the mug shots of any buff that was arrested for anything since 1985. Everything from unpaid parking tickets to cup of coffee walk-on Miles Kyginasaki(sp) the duct tape rapist. All the sudden we were all seen with a prejudiced eye. When I went back to fla on spring break SI was all I heard about.

Then I got the phone call. Jim Hansen, my frosh roommate called me and told me Sal had cancer. Whe saw him struggle but gut his way through spring conditioning, but didn't think it was anything more than a flu or something. When I came back the start of spring ball was surreal. We were working on football but Sal was never far from the conversation. He was driven on to the field after a couple of weeks of treatments and already looked gaunt and pale. We finished spring honoring him at halftime of the alumni game.

After the summer and and the first three wins, we started to get some positive noteriety. Then during the off week, Sal passed. The memorial was wrenching and joyous. Dee Dowis came up from AFA in dress blues to pay his respects. I will always honor the Academy for that. UW had no idea what was coming when the team left for Seattle. Then rumbling through the Big 8 sched to the Orange Bowl. Boulder and the campus changed. People were genuinely behind us like I hadn't seen in my short buff tenure. It was an amazing transition from
The year before.

Sorry for the ramble.

That is a ramble very, very well done

Not to be a downer, but I've been hearing about this movie for years and the domain name for it was registered in 2006. There were trailers for the movie starting in 2007 or maybe earlier. I'd LOVE to see it, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

In 90 or 91 they were talking feature film with then young guns star Lou Diamond Phillips as Sal. yeah, don't set up camp outside the multiplex box office yet.

I'm depressed....I missed the best years by two-three years....

You probably missed it by more than that bro. I am older than you by almost a decade and don't remember Sal at all. My earliest memories of Colorado football are: 1) being corrected (at the age of five or six) that it was not Eric "The Enemy", but Eric Bienemy (my Dad's friends got a kick out of that) and 2) My Mom screaming there was a flag on the Rocket's return in the Orange Bowl.

My earliest memory was 1999 so you're right but I can't even say I was alive for our best years at the least.

Well, at least you have 2001 to hold on to. ****ing Oregon.
What a great season. Coming home after losing to Fresno State I thought we were ****ed then beating NU and UT then being depressed when Oregon killed us. Ugh

I was very fortunate during that time. It was when my dad was president of the Boulder Buff club, so I got to do a lot of cool things with the team. I remember sitting at a fundraiser booth in Crossroads mall with Kanavis McGhee and Art Walker. Was also a member of Ralphie Stampeders.

so, is this a documentary or a drama? i'm a little iffy on the drama part....to be honest.

is "living large" productions legit? is it J Rock in the trailer park or something with a proven history?

Well done! Brought tears to my eyes.

Thanks, I saved most of the articles from those years, someday I'll do something with them.
