Wheeler is a speedy, dynamic playmaker from a small town in east Texas (around 7,000 people).

Great player with some question marks, including the competition level since Crockett plays at the 2A level. Also, there were some negative rumblings early on in the spring about a cocky attitude at different schools' Junior Day events.

With that size and that speed, he'd be a great addition to just about any offense.

UT supposedly pulled back on its offer. That might very well open the door for us, since Kennedy would have been scouting him for a while and may have been behind the original offer to UT. I was reading some different boards, and the people who follow Texas preps consistently say he's one of the most dynamic players in the state this cycle (maybe the best playmaker). Some stuff about attitude as BB said, some question on whether his grades would be there, some concern over whether he's as good as he looks on film since it's small school competition, but take take that for what it's worth. Internet chatter. Could be valid, could be justifications for UT skipping on a kid who looks this good.

Hoping we can make a move here and get him up to Boulder for a visit.

The attitude issues stemmed from him showing up to Junior Day festivities at two different schools with he and several family members in tow wearing t-shirts with his picture on them, or so the rumor goes. Whatever the case may be, he has not spoken to Texas since February. I am guessing/hoping someone talked to him and those around them to knock some sense into them. Any coach is going to be unimpressed with those types of antics.

Overall, a really good football player that would go a long way in upgrading our team speed. It is hard to lure east Texas kids out of the state or away from LSU, but maybe Kennedy can help here.

I can support a couple primadonnas if they're this good. Embree and EB being from the NFL should be familiar with such types anyways.

In a surprise, he picked the Red Raiders today.

That's frustrating. He must like the spread offense. It's interesting how that works. So many WRs come from the spread as their high school system now, so that's where they are comfortable. On top of that, the college spread coaches can sell how much they distribute the ball around and how many touches the WRs get. We're going to struggle for WR prospects who are in that mode. However, I like where we are. We are attracting the WRs who are focused on learning the routes for a pro style system and being as NFL ready as possible after 3-5 years of playing college ball. We are also more appealing to bigger, more physical WRs rather than the smurfs (although if Canty busts out this year we'll look good to them, too).

Surprising - maybe.

Tubberville has been absolutely killing it on the recruiting trail. That TTU team could be very, very good in just another year or two.
