Nice to see us building the connections at Poly.

Smith is definitely a playmaker, too.

This is a player I have been keeping an eye on, hoping we would offer. Would be nice to place him at slot receiver and get some bigger guys for the outside.

Other than the height, what's not to like about this kid? Great acceleration, change of direction, ball skills, etc. I'm assuming Poly also plays very good competition, too. That's some good tape.

Any word on a leader? He looks like a kid Oregon could clean up with. Hope they stay out of it.

he looks like the kind of guy that can make someone miss a tackle in a phone booth.

Damn, ASU loaded up at Long Beach Poly-four verbals from there this year. Worth keeping an eye on though, considering Erickson's tenuous job status.

Didn't ASU just lose two of their WR to injury? I wonder if early playing time helped with the decision.

He was the 2nd leg on Poly's 4x400 relay team that won the state championship and briefly had the top time in the country. Smith has maintained since his commitment that he wants to take some official visits. Let's hope one of those visits is to Boulder.

Although Smith did not officially pull back his ASU verbal, he is in no way committed.

Here are a couple quotes from a new Scout article:

“I am still fully committed to ASU, I just want to keep my options open,” said Smith.

-and-

“I have already made my decision, I just haven’t told anyone yet. I know where I am going, you guys will see in February,” said Smith.

CU didn't get a mention in the article. Watch out for UCLA.

I am fully committed to ASU but I haven't told anyone where I'm going. Gotta love it.

UCLA does very well with Long Beach Poly kids (or at least I thought I read that somewhere).

What's the appeal with UCLA now with Slick Rick being on the hot seat?

The school sells itself. And if you ever talk to Ricky Weasel, you'll meet a man who can charm a snake. I've got no doubt that he can sell himself and his program. Plus they're local on this one.

The issue UCLA has had in recruiting for the 2011 and 2012 classes has been that many prospects and their parents are refusing to listen. Smith was open to the pitch. That makes UCLA dangerous here.

I'm going to go back to listing him as an ASU verbal. It's too confusing if he's not.

Kind of funny, but the sites call him a "Solid Verbal". In this case, that's like asking a girl out for Friday night and having her tell you to definitely pick her up at 7 (unless she gets an offer she likes better between today and Friday at 7). :smile2:
