DE his sophomore year before switching to DT as a junior. Also lines up at TE and FB. Plays on the basketball team and also does track.

Based on his offer list and some of the programs coming hard (Penn State, among others), this is a big time prospect. Will be interesting to see if he starts out as a 4* or just below.

I just wish there was some non-premium video.

Here's the link to his Rivals vid. I'm not sure whether you need a subscription to view: http://rivals.yahoo.com/video/recruiting-football/Video-2012-DT-Korren-Kirven-Junior-Film-831405;_ylt=AobcaCZ8.nr1j7i0ELrlftLBrZB4

I dont have a subscription to Buffscoop but the free preview for an article on junior day/spring game visitors says that a blue chip player from Virginia was here and there is a picture of Kirven. Probably still a long shot we get him, but nice to know that Korren is interested enough to come out for a visit.

Did not visit. AZ got bad info and had to retract. Mutual interest, though.

Longshot, but...

“This summer I plan to check them out in more detail. In one day they can’t show you too much,” he said. “I’m going to quite a few places this summer. I’ll probably go to Alabama, Notre Dame, Auburn, Tennessee, Penn State, Rutgers, Stanford and Colorado and Florida. I’m going to do quite a bit of traveling.”

If nothing else, nice to be mentioned in that group of schools.

We still are getting mentioned by him:

Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Stanford, Colorado, Rutgers, North Carolina State, Notre Dame and Stanford.

...

That could be hard. Colorado will be in play because the four-star prospect said he has no problem traveling afar to play college football. Stanford is a possibility thanks to his 3.4 grade point average.

The more East Coast guys we pull, the better chance we have to get Schumate and this guy. Wright & Brown would be a great start followed up by this guy.

Hoping and praying we can get this kid away from VT and the slew of SEC schools. This guy is a total beast, would love to establish a pipeline into VA...very talent rich area

fwiw, Va Tech gained commitments from two DLs today. They're at 17 total. Could mean that there's more pressure on Kirven or it could mean that they've moved on. Then again, it could mean nothing and I'm wasting your time and mine with this post. :smile2:

Yup, Alston Smith (Bruce Smith's kid - legacy, so no surprise there) out of VA Beach, a 3 star. Also Seth Dooley from Salem (right near Blacksburg) who is somewhat of a sleeper/unknown, I believe.

3star DT Nigel Williams (Richmond, VA - Benedictine HS) committed to the Hokies today. AS did Woody Baron out of TN, another DT/DE at the college level.

Buffs in good position for getting an OV.

From Rivals:

"I'm going to try to visit a couple more places this month, but it's going to be harder with practice starting today," he said. "I'm possibly going to Tennessee, Colorado, Stanford, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Notre Dame.

"Some of those will be for officials particularly the West Coast."

Va Tech and Bama seem to be the two favorites right now, but we keep on getting mentioned, so that cannot be a bad thing at all. An OV puts us in the conversation at the very least. A potential DT haul of Henington, Solis, and Kirven would be pretty amazing.

His former high school teammates include Va Tech starting QB Logan Thomas and DE Zach McCray. The Lynchburg-Forest area used to lean UVA in the 90's, but in the past decade it has switched to Hokie territory and is only an hour from Blacksburg. Kirven seems to be very open-minded about the process and checking out schools in the West and he definitely cares about academics (he visited Duke this spring and came away impressed), but it'll be stunning to get this kid away from VT. Hopefully an OV can do the job, it would be mighty hard to not envision Boulder as providing a better college experience than isolated and dreary Blacksburg..
