Two-way athlete that could be a FB or LB at the next level. Seems to want to stay in the northwest, but is going to wait out the process for a while most likely.

Got himself an Oregon offer. Kind of surprising to me, his highlights were good, but I didn't think Oregon would be offering. More of an Oregon State level recruit.

Well, our crappyness since Hawkins took over allowed for them to spawn from a bastard child I-AA program into a decent I-A mid major. Now if CU wants to vanquish them, they need to get their ass in gear, start winning, and put their foot on the throat of these cocksuckers.

AZ says EB is recruiting him at FB and he will take an OV here this fall. He probably could compete for playing time right away with Harrington and Ahles graduating.

Yes. Want a player built like a TE or OG but too small to play that at the next level who likes to hit the defense in the mouth from anywhere on the field, relishes doing the blue-collar stuff like clearing a lane for the guy who gets the stats. Hard to find because every prep athlete thinks end zone at the next level but be a great college fullback and you're a fan favorite while you're here.

A lot of kids don't want to play fullback because there isn't much glory and they don't get drafted into the NFL. What they do get is a chance to play and contribute that they might not get at another position. The good ones, kind of like long snappers, also can make a pro career out of it with less competition than at the "glory" positions.

It will help a lot with FB recruiting if Harrington gets used a lot in the passing game.

What if Harrington sucks as a receiver? We won't get to showcase that aspect. Bafaro impresses as a receiver, good hands and yards after catch are significant. I haven't seen too many rushing or pass plays by CU fullbacks so far. Bafaro can run the ball very well. He could be used in option plays and defenses would have to respect his ability to bust it up the gut as his highlights show. He is fast and hard to bring down.

If this kid has pro aspirations, he needs to consider the numbers. Great college linebackers are everywhere. Since most college offenses don't really use a fullback, there are considerably less candidates for pro teams, and most pro teams use a fullback. In CU's offense with EB as his coach, it is probably the best shot for Brett to get there. He belongs in Boulder.

Harrington looked good catching the ball in fall camp. (Ssshhhhhhh. Secret weapon.)

Actually, most pro teams do not use a FB.

True. I don't follow pro as much as I used to. Do most teams still keep a FB on the roster for goal line and short yardage situations even if they don't use the position in their base sets? Or are most going to 1-back with multiple TEs for that now?

Really?

[h=1]Fullbacks back en vogue ESPN[/h]

Despite the proliferation of three-wide receiver and two-tight end offenses, nearly two-thirds of NFL teams (21 of 32) opened the 2009 season with a fullback in their lineups. The top 14 rushing teams in the league and 16 of the top 17 clubs in rushing offense had fullbacks on their rosters. Of the 15 players in the league who rushed for 1,000 yards or more in 2009, all but Mendenhall played at least part of the season with a conventional fullback as a lead blocker.
In 2008, all of the top 10 rushing teams had a fullback.

Not saying no NFL teams use FBs anymore, but most teams are not using the FB with great regularity. It has almost been phased out of Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections. A lot of one back sets and more H-Back type players are being used than traditional fullbacks.

I guess I will amend my original comment a bit. FBs used in their traditional role are not the norm in the NFL. Hell, the ESPN comment here basically said they are on rosters and that RBs played "at least part of the season with a conventional fullback as the lead blocker." That statement is as about as vague as can be. "Part of a season" could mean two games or twelve games.

In the end, I hope we nab Bafaro, but I am not going to begrudge a kid if he does not want to be a FB.

I'm down with a big fast blocking back that can carry the ball, knock a LB on their ass and catch some screens and outs. We could call him Gumby on Viagra, which would be Pokey...don't care. This kid would be a great addition to the team.

I would say that the majority of NFL teams have at least one guy who is primarily a FB and use him in that role as a significant part of their offensive package. This doesn't mean that he gets listed in their base set with the starters or that he plays the majority of the time. At the same time he ends up getting as much time as any of the other situational players. At the minimum he gets in on goal line/short yardage, also when teams are backed up to their own goal lines and want the extra blocker/protector. Also when teams go to obvious running situations such as when trying to run out the clock.

The guy filling this role better be a solid special teams player if he wants to keep his job and if he can also play some H-back and fill in some at RB he will be way ahead.

I would think with the experience that the Buffs have on their staff with Embree/Bienemy and others they would be ideal for coaching a guy who fits this role.

gained his 4th star on rivals. hopefully we get a visit

Interesting. I wonder what he did to move up. I'm really high on him, but I don't see any difference between him and Norgard besides Norgard choosing not to promote his offers.

Whatever. I'd love for him to choose CU. The two of them can compete and sort out who plays LB and who plays FB.

Maybe one could do both?

I need to try and catch a game or two this fall. Liberty is about a mile up the road from my office.
