#49 Recruiting class in the country

Today we are finally in the Rivals recruiting top 50. Cant wait to see how high we climb.

We have so many players with place holder grades it is going to be a while before we get a decent picture of it.

How high we climb is going to depend on how we do head-to-head against other teams in the conference. Several of the top prospects left on the board are going to playing somewhere in the PAC-12.

Exactly, for example we lead Cal, but they currently have 5 commits, with a 5* and two 4* among them.

Works both ways, we trail Cincy, but we have the same number of 4 and 3 star players. They just have 2 more commits than us.

Agree that our play on the field is going to (and should) impact what happens in recruiting. We start whooping ass and rushing for 300 yards a game, some of the instate linemen hopefully will take notice. We suck hind tit, some of our current commits would probably notice...

how are we behind ucla? we have a higher average, 2 more commits and the same amount of 4 stars(1) and more 3 stars

We need a couple more marquee commits and I expect several guys to move up during their senior seasons. I say that about the move because a bunch of our guys didn't have a lot of hype or exposure as juniors.

Where do you think we finish? Is finishing the Rivals rating at 25 - 30 out of the question?

I think if we finish with a top 30 in our first year with new coaches we are in great shape. Solid on-field play will get some great buzz going for 12-13 class that we really need to have in the top 25.

Not at all.

Here's what it took last year:

#25 Virginia: 26 commits (zero 5*; five 4*; seventeen 3*; four 2*; zero unrated)
#30 Iowa: 25 commits (zero 5*; four 4*; sixteen 3*; five 2*; zero unrated)

As I was saying, we need a couple more marquee names and some guys to get bumps. Fill out the class with solid 3* guys and we'll be right in this range.

Also, if we would get ourselves a 5* that pretty much guarantees a Top 20 class on Rivals. Last year, the lowest rated class that had a 5* commit was at #19 (Mississippi). Our best chance on that is Aziz ****tu, although he hasn't mentioned us in a while.

In your opinion, you think we're pretty well out of the running with him?

I think if Matt Cochran (hs teammate) is still high on us and decides to visit that we get back in the running with ****tu. Otherwise, I think he ends up back at Stanford.

Their formula isn't that simple, it takes need into account. For example, you could sign the top 25 OL in the country, which would gather a bunch of 5 and 4 star with the rest 3 star, but your class would be lower rated because you didn't address all of your needs.

Lovin' the progress! Rivals 250 should come out tomorrow at noon. If any new additions show up, that will help.

I know ESPN recruiting is next to worthless, but they're showing that Cochran is high on 6 teams, and we aren't one of them right now. They're showing "low" interest for us. It's still early, and that could change with some W's.

Frankly, if we end up somewhere in the 40's once it's all said and done, I'd be very pleased.

I suppose their formula looks at standard position and #'s in classes (i.e., 2 sr wr's). If so, it's very generic and prolly doesn't look at the type of offense/defense run by the respective schools.

It is not only realistic to end up in the low 30s, it should be the expectation.

Errr all you guys are hoping for is a class ranked in the 40s? Wtf. This staff should be recruiting in the 30s and 20s every year, and with success on the field, in the top 15.
