Recently, Ken Pomeroy updated his blog with a post about Colorado sophomore Andre Roberson; in said post, Pomeroy stressed the 6-foot-7 Roberson was extremely undervalued -- a fact we could not agree more with.

The forward played only 55 percent of Colorado's available minutes in 2011 but, despite his limited action on the floor, greatly impacted the Buffaloes last season (his 16.3 percent of possessions used, however, could be one of the reasons why Roberson was not included in Luke Winn's recent breakout sophomore formula piece).

The forward had an offensive rating way over a point per possession but, more importantly, was the only freshman ranked within the top 25 for both defensive and offensive rebounding percentage. Add his above-average block rate and steal rate, and Roberson should be considered one of the Pac-12 breakout forwards in 2012.

Without Cory Higgins or Alec Burks, look for Roberson to get more offensive touches.

I love Dre...but from what I see of his game, he is a hustle, glue player. Unless he has marked improvement in his shot and handles, I hope we do not give him a lot of offensive touches during a game. He will get his points from putbacks, quick dump offs, and occasional feeds inside. He has a lot of potential, but we need to see an improvement in his offensive game before we give him more touches.

Purposely giving someone more touches in basketball is due to the player being able to create his own shot or able to find someone with a good shot. Dre is really good athletically and on the glass, but to assume that he'll get more touches just because he's a sophomore now?...I hope he's improved, because last year, his shot wasn't great, neither was his passing. I hate to be doggin' on Dre, because I really think highly of his game. However, solely based on last season, I would not give him more touches on offense - save it for Adams or Brown.

I do think he could have a breakout season though - there's a lot more to the game than offensive touches.
 
It wasn't his role last year, but there were glimpses. The poster-ization dunk on the kjsu player is an example -- caught the ball on the wing, and drove in for the score. I think Dre has a little more to work with than we suspect, and we'll see some of it this year.


I don't think (at this point) that he's capable of putting up numbers ala Alec or even Cory. If he can average around 15 points a game he'll become more of a focus for the opponents d, and I think this will help all the "new" folks we'll have on the floor this year.
 
Totally agree, RedDirt. 'Dre proved down the stretch that he is more than capable of just a few put back touches. Dude averaged just under 10/game, shot 75%, hit a pair of 3's, and logged 26 min/game over the last 6. The offense began to rely on him for more than just his rebounding presence. He was just constantly deferring (rightly) to the 4 seniors who were supposed to carry the load.

I'm a little concerned about his shot, in that we didn't see it all that much last year, but then I remember that he's a freshman. He's now had a full off-season of strength and conditioning along with gym-rat time to work on his whole game. If he's taken full advantage of that we should see the expected improvement in his game, allowing him to be more than just a glue/hustle guy.

The point is, he's not just Lamar Harris anymore. Dyeme: you can't stop this hype train!
 
I think Dre's game could have improved and we would still not see too a big a jump in his scoring if our other players can't force defenders to guard the 3-point line.*

That said, given how active he is, I think he'd see a nice bump if he improves his free-throw shooting. He shot 55 percent from the stripe last year.

We've got to be able to force defenses to extend. I know we've got a few guys in Dre, Adams and Brown who can drive and finish. But that won't get us very far if other teams can pack in their defense. Besides the newcomers, we need Austin and Nate to step it up from the perimeter for their senior years.

I sure hope someone is on his case and working with him on FT's. There's some easy points to be had right there. I'm really looking forward to seeing how he plays and how much he improves this year.
