Midnight madness

RK

UBL
Talked to coach Boyle the other day about a possible Midnight madness this year. He loved the idea but he had some concerns that we couldn't get a great crowd. That the students would show up but not the older fans and families. I think we should get a group of you 35 year olds  to let him know you would show. I think its the best way to get everyone hyped on the season

This 35 (+15) year old might be interested. I would go to a Morning madness, however.

They could sell breakfast burritos, donuts, coffee, etc.

Prolly get more families and old people.

I'd definitely be there. But I think Tad is probably right. We're 2 or 3 years away from being able to do that right.

I would be there. I think it really depends on how they did it. I think if they got in part of ESPN's Midnight Maddness coverage, you would have a good enough crowd. Either way, I would be there regardless.

what does this mean?
Its basically a party on the first day you are allowed to hold full practices. At exactly Midnight the team has a practice that everyone can attend and they do cool introductions and stuff and just get the fans pumped. Then do a scrimmage or something fun like that. All the big basketball schools do it.

I went to one at UofA when my sister was an undergrad there. It's a ton of fun. I hope we can soon be a program that can rock the house for a midnight basketball practice.

We're still a couple years off from being able to successfully do something like this. Best way to show that something like this would work is to get more than 2k attendance for our early Nov and Dec games this year. We've made some serious progress the last couple years, but there's a longgg way to go

Boyle's right, no one would show up. We barley filled half of the arena for a game against a ranked Texas A&M team last year.

We were over 7500 on a Wednesday night in February after losing 5 of 6. That should be a sell out and I agreed with Tad thinking we've got some building to do before March Madness makes sense, but you're really slanting things to make a point. We also had a sell out 3 days later on a Saturday for an unranked K-State team. We're at a point where there's interest and people go when it's an event. We'll never be Kentucky packing 23k for an opening night practice, but in a couple years I could definitely see 2-3k students and diehard fans making the trek for it. More if we were celebrating a conference championship or Sweet 16 team.

Fair enough.

Wasnt that the night where it was like negative 20 and ridiclous?

I agree maybe a midnight madness wouldnt be that sucessful, realizing most of the die hard colorado basketball fans go to sleep before 9pm (and I am one of them), but I hope they do something like they did last year, but make it a little more entertaining. Last year they did all they could to not have it count as a practice, this year they should just go for it, and allow guys to scrimage. That is what people want to see, how good are these new freshman/transfers.

I say do it the morning say 10am, on the 15th. If you really wanted to do it up, combine it with a Watch party for the CU-Washington Football game.

When Louisville did it, they sold 850 tickets at $50 a pop to watch the team do a dunk contest and light practice in their historic practice gym (proceeds to charity). We could definitely do something similar at the Keg on a Friday night to kick things off (let students in for free by showing a student ID).

how about do it in Balch. Smaller arena, closer to the players, more staff/player/fan interaction. Cool old school setting. Once it gets big enough move it to coors.

I really like the dunk contest idea. People love that ****. I also like the viewing party idea. Combine those two and we're on to something. If we can devise a master plan we should propose it to Tad.

i'd like to see us play one of the exhibition games in Balch. need bleachers though.

i think this year the thing to do is have a highly publicized normal evening time open practice event maybe the next day (dunk contest, autographs, kids scrimmage with the players, whatever)....work towards where people will show up at midnight. maybe have it at 10 AM or something before a home football game...
