Ralphie Report: Another transfer running back joins the Buffs

NCAA Football: Cure Bowl-Miami (OH) at Appalachian State

Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

This room has turned over in the last two weeks

It’s gotta feel weird to be Deion Sanders sometimes. Everyone outside the program was incredibly surprised and saddened by the departure of Dylan Edwards last week, but it seems like Coach Prime was ready to reload for the Colorado Buffaloes. Edwards is still a huge loss and will be a great player wherever he ends up, but the running back room is already almost at full strength again.

Enter Rashad Amos. The Miami of Ohio running back was committed to Mississippi State until this weekend, when he flew out to see the Buffs. He entered the transfer portal after a great redshirt sophomore season for the Redhawks. He rushed for 1,075 yards on 210 carries, a workhorse in today’s game, and rumbled in 13 touchdowns. At 6’2 and 220ish pounds, he was a SLEDGEHAMMER against those MAC defenses, and he looks to recreate that in Boulder. Amos is a very different frame than the other backs on the roster, including Dallas Hayden. He will be a run and game finisher and use his natural size to punch in some touchdowns. Behind a bigger (and hopefully better) offensive line, Amos will rotate with Hayden and Micah Welch (and a few other names) to wear down defenses. Under Pat Shurmur, expect a lot more inside zone and power running compared to last year.

Ralphie Report: Coach Prime lands Ohio State running back Dallan Hayden

Ohio State v Purdue

The Buffs need help in the backfield.

Coach Prime is at it again, seeing some talented players leave the program while recruiting immediate starters at the same position. This time it’s the running back room, where the Colorado Buffaloes will look totally different from last season.

Gone are Anthony Hankerson, Alton McCaskill, Sy’veon Wilkerson and now Dylan Edwards. All of whom have transferred out of the program, with Hanerkson leaving for Oregon State, Edwards likely headed to Kansas State, and the other still TBD.

The first in is Dallan Hayden, a sophomore from Ohio State. Highly recruited out of Memphis, Tennessee, Hayden ran for 553 yards on 111 carries as a true freshman. He appeared in just three games in 2023 and looked good, but it’s unclear why he fell out of OSU’s rotation.

Charlie Offerdahl is next on the depth chart after Hayden. More will surely follow as Deion Sanders revamps the backfield.

Ralphie Report: Star running back Dylan Edwards leaving Colorado

NCAA Football: Colorado at Utah

Christopher Creveling-USA TODAY Sports

The electric back is leaving Boulder.

Adding to the list of transfers out of the Colorado Football program, upcoming sophomore running back Dylan Edwards announced Tuesday morning that he would be entering the transfer portal and leaving Boulder.

Edwards was a solid contributor in Coach Deion Sanders inaugural season at Colorado. He led the team in rushing yards with 321 yards and pulled in 299 receiving yards on 36 receptions.

The news came after the Buffs added Ohio State transfer running back Dallan Hayden on Monday afternoon.

Edwards was initially committed to attend Kansas State, but Sanders, his youth football coach, swayed him to join Colorado. Now the sophomore will likely look back to his high school recruiting offers as he makes his next decision.

With Edwards departure, Colorado has now lost all four of their top running backs from 2023. With Hayden coming in and the portal opening recently, the Buffs still have time to add more talent in the backfield.

Ralphie Report: Buffaloes snag Ohio DT Rayyan Buell from transfer portal

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 10 Ohio at Penn State

The Buffs are getting even more help in the trenches

You can never have too much help in the defensive trenches, which is something that Colorado’s coaching staff seems to know all too well. Colorado managed to snag Ohio standout DT Rayyan Buell from the transfer portal, further bolstering their revamped defensive line.

BREAKING: Former Ohio DL Rayyan Buell has Committed to Colorado, he tells @on3sports

The 6’3 275 DL totaled 39 Tackles and 6.5 Sacks in his 2 years with the Bobcats

Will have 1 year of eligibility remaining https://t.co/xEgTdCqJTE pic.twitter.com/fTt4LkBKgj

— Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) April 21, 2024

Buell played the last two seasons with the Bobcats, where he eventually broke out in 2023. After finishing with 30 tackles and 4.5 sacks, Buell was named to the third team all-MAC list. Before his time in Athens, Buell was a star for Northwest Mississippi Community College.

Buell is ready to take the next step and move onto playing in a power four conference. He’ll now join the likes of Shane Cokes, Chidozie Nwankwo, Anquin Barnes and Taurean Carter, adding even more talent at the DT position.

Snagging a 6-foot-3, 270 Ibs group of five standout from the portal is always a welcome addition. Buell has one year of eligibility remaining and he’ll be spending it playing for the Buffaloes.

Welcome to Boulder, Rayyan!
