First game against a former B12 foe.

How big of a deal is this? Will this fact get a lot of attention by the media covering the game? Lots of footage of Barry Sanders leaping over the Buffs D for four touchdowns in 1988 or the fake FG in 1991 to seal the game? There's some history between these two schools. Remember the airplane crash that killed a bunch of their men's basketball team?
While there's a lot of history there, I don't think the current players have any real knowledge of the old Big 8/Big 12 days. I suspect it'll be a much bigger deal in the media than it is for either of the teams involved.

I remember elk hunting with my dad a long time ago (mid 80's) and the Buffs were playing the pokes. I made him ride around for about 5 hours chasing a AM radio station signal to try and hear the game. Pretty much blew off hunting for the day. Buffs won in a nail biter. Sierra Blanca Massif near Mt. Lindsey is where we were BTW.

I think it's pretty sweet, but it's only notable for the older portions of each fanbase. We had less of a rivalry with OSU than about any other Big 8 program.
Here's that fake FG game (play is at about 35:00 mins):

no old conference feelings for me...and i grew up with the Big 8. may be abetted by the fact CU and OSU were the last two teams to join the Big 8....i think....and once the Big XII split into divisions we didn't see them every year. so, really, least number of games against OSU as any of the old Big 8 schools. seems possible.

never had any strong anti-Poke feelings....and when Bob Simmons was there....i kinda pulled for him/them to do well. if it mattered or i cared to i could easily crank up some neg feelings about KU, KSU, MU etc.

Our chants go nicely together. **** em up **** em up go CU!
Then they come, "We're going to beat the hell outta you!"

It always cracked me up being at the game when OSU was good and CU had a good crowd. The last time Dez Bryant played us was a fun game.

Is it weird that I give zero ****s about the "former Big 12 foe" storyline to this game?
Not weird necessarily. I kind of feel the same way, honestly. I just think there will be an ongoing narrative about the fact that the two teams used to be in the same conference. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, this is the first football game between ANY of the four exiting teams and the Big 12 since the exodus.

I feel this way mostly due to the fact that I never thought much about OSU and being in separate divisions in the Big 12 furthered that general sense of indifference. If it was one of the Big XII North opponents I may feel a bit differently.

I would probably care some if it was a team from the old North, particularly Nebraska, KSU or Mizzou.

Nope not weird at all, just another team in front of us. Let's beat that ass and enjoy the Holiday season.

Yep. Would also care if it was OU. Probably more because of the national cache that OU carries though than any Big 8 history.

Just a football team. Give a **** about the conference unless the Biv XII implodes sooner than later and we can pick off OU, TX and two others.

Just a game and these kids on the team do not give two suits or even remember that CU was in the Big XII

I'm pretty indifferent to most of the Big XII teams with the exception of Baylor and Texas. **** those guys.

I like that it's an old Big 8 matchup. I would not give a **** if it were one of the Texas Big XII schools. Doesn't matter as much as if it were the Fuskers or Oklahoma.

I think most people and the media will still be surprised we're in that bowl game. We're mostly remembered as a Pac-12 doormat with a sudden turnaround. It doesn't matter that the turnaround wasn't so sudden, if you've been paying attention, but people stopped doing that.

Okie lite is sort of like ISU: "oh yeah, they were in the Big 8 with us."

The story line would resonate more with me if it were NU, OU, or Mizzou. In that order.

I still remember Barry Sanders running for 174 yards and 4 TDs in Boulder in 1988. I was like "Who is that guy? Man! The Buffs must suck!"

Then he won the Heisman...

I don't care that much about the Big 12/Big 8 thing, but I do think it could be a nice story capper - the Buffs prove the Rise is Real, demonstrating their dominance like the old days in a great win against one of their former conference foes.

Don't care much about the story line, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for OSU fans. I have twin cousins who were born and raised in Oklahoma. The one who is a douchebag is an OU fan. The nice guy is the OSU fan. Go figure.

OSU was always one of my favorite Big 8 teams to play against and I wouldn't mind being in the same conference with them again.

This isnt the first game between one of the four former Big 12 members and the conference-A&M beat OU in the Cotton Bowl the year Manziel won the Heisman. As far as this game.......it'll be a storyline, but it's not as big a deal as it would be if we played OU.

we're going to mudhole them. i don't hate them like i hate the fuskers, ****-bailer, kjuco state, texassss.... but, i can always work up a good hate for a bowl game.

Also, OSU played Mizzou in a bowl game a few years ago.

I am not really getting any nostalgic vibes, man. It's just another team in the way of The Rise. Nothing more.

I see OSU and get nostalgic for the Stunned Okie fark thread.

Or is it Stunned Aggie? It was an OSU guy.

I saved a ton of the pictures on my laptop. I thought they were hilarious.

IMG_0003.JPG For the record, it was unfortunate that the fan at Folsom flashed a laser pointer in the face of OSU QB Zac Robinson in 2008. Apologies for that dumbass move.

After many years of futility following that incident, the Buffs fans have been adequately punished.

Hoping for a laser pointer free game in San Antonio this time around.
