Religious and political minefield that the NCAA isn't going to touch. Another similar situation is the exemption from using eligibility when an athlete goes on active duty military. If a player wanted he could come to a school, play two years, do a four year enlistment, and come back with three to play two.

The NCAA has enough problems without putting themselves into a position of arguing against student athletes participating in normal activities for their religion.
