Other than the fact that the Oregon visit, and the rest of his visits are "Official" visits, not unnofficial, this is a pretty well done article by the DP. They talk to McChesney, his HS coach, and Sam himself.

Not all that common, but typically it is a tactic used by the USC's, and apparently Oregon's, of the world to say "we're interested in you...as long as no one better comes along." They'd like to have him stay uncommited to anyone else as a backup plan if somebody they like more decides to go elsewhere.
Guess the Oregon offer wasn't committable.
I guess academics weren't important...
What? ASU is the best University in Tempe.
Maybe, but Scottsdale Community College is right up the road.
