"He was a kid overlooked by virtually everybody, obviously except the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, coming out of high school. He's got great size, great athleticism, and he has great skill," Buffs head coach Tad Boyle said in a released statement.

"When you see a guy that's an All-American, and has proven everything that he can prove at the Division II level, it's exciting to bring a player like that who can score, rebound, and pass into your program," Boyle added.

Sounds like a solid guy with good parents.

The problem with Derrick White is there's no problem. In sports, and sports journalism, we hunt the stories of athletes overcoming impossible odds to succeed.

Derrick has none of those stories.

Derrick is from the 'burbs. He's a sophomore basketball star at UCCS who chose the university based on its sports management program. His mom bakes Rice Krispies treats for bus rides. School doesn't come easy for him, yet he scored a 3.5 GPA at Legend High School in Parker.

Derrick makes for one dull sports story.

And Derrick is probably what we should be writing about more often. Normal is cool, too.

White was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-America Team during his junior season, when he averaged 25.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists per game. He helped the Mountain Lions to their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championship and to the second round of the 2015 NCAA Division II National Tournament. UCCS finished the 2014-15 season with a program-best 27-6 record.

Disappointing he has to sit out, but nice addition for down the road. WTF do we this year?

Fortune better be ready to ball.

Heard rumors from practice that he is an absolute stud. Of course rumors are rumors and he has to prove it when the lights are on. But he was a good player for a good program previously so I'm not too worried about him.

Collier's development is the big question mark for me.

Welcome Derrick!!!

Much needed scorer and all-around player here! Excited for the 2016-2017 season already. Our backcourt (guards/wings) will be stacked in White, Fortune, Fletcher, King, Satterwhite, Brown, Collier, and Akyazili. There is going to be some heavy competition for minutes.

Would be nice to get De'Ron Davis and an imposing 7 footer for 2016-2017.

Just bummed he'll only have one year. I'd normally say a kid transferring from DII to DI would primarily be a bench guy / practice guy. But he is kind of intriguing. Especially after reading some of the quotes in the article.

Even though it was at a lower level he won a lot of games the last couple years.

I hope that he can help by providing some leadership in that direction to a team that seemed to lack it last year.

Why did you stop at four?

Oh, I see why.

That obviously doesn’t fit my narrative.

This thread was meant to celebrate one of Colorados most prolific NBA basketball players, but you had to make it about yourself and be a typical H-A-T-E-R

Now I’ll say it again, Derrick White is arguably the second best basketball player in the entire world right now.
