Eliot looks to be recruiting him based on follows. Interestingly, Borghi is also following.

Like the 3 to play 3. Also looks like a guy who has room to get bigger without getting overweight.

He has to see opportunity here for himself.

So have we abandoned HS DL recruiting for the year? Not meant to be a comment on Barkley, just seems like we have a new group of DL recruits on the board now that are all Jucos.

Not entirely true. We offered a lot of JUCOs months ago, Barkley has been on the radar for awhile. Same with guys like Caleb Tremblay and Jonathan Lolohea. Not saying high school DL recruiting has been ideal by any stretch, but a lot of these JUCO players have not just popped up out of nowhere.

Really hope they continue to stay on guys like Avery, Livingston, Spina and some other prep DL guys. However, there certainly seems to be a need for a couple of guys who can come in and contribute immediately, so I get why the staff would be scouring the JUCO ranks as well.

With Edwards down, it's obvious we need immediate help on the D-line. I'd rather we recruit the best players who can contribute right away, than preen over who we beat for a HS kid who's projected to be good.

A "can't miss" guy out of high school would be great, but it just isn't likely right now.

This is in part why I am glad to see some of these guys are 3 to play 3 guys or at least 3 to play 2. It takes some time for most JCs to adapt to the P5 game. If a guy only has 2 years left like some we have gotten in recent years they spend a year adjusting, we get one good year, and they move on leaving a hole again.

Barkley looks physically ready to play. If he can contribute in the rotation for a year as he adapts then give us 2 solid years as a starter that would be what we would hope for from a HS kid with potentially less risk.

Let's not go that far, we need both. The problem going JUCO-heavy is that it becomes a cycle of having to get "immediate" help most years.

Honestly do not see how CU is not a prime destination next year for JUCO DL- CU just put one JUCO DL in the draft last year, might do it again this year, and to be frank any JUCO DL worth their salt will get major PT next year, if not start.

From what I understand DL is the hardest position to recruit except for top tier teams...there aren’t a lot of good DL HS prospects that don’t get gobbled up by the big boys.

Look at the top 100 players every year, they’re predominantly offensive and defensive lineman, CB’s and WR’s are a large part of that as well though. There’s a reason the best teams are always the best teams. They get 18 year old, 280+ pound men among boys ready to contribute. 38 players of the top 100 in 2016 (247sports) were offensive and defensive lineman. It’s not a secret why Alabama is always good.

Shouldn't be that hard to beat out CSU and Arky State if his offer list stays where it is.

Um, assuming teams typically play 5 OL and 3 or 4 DL, that works out to ~8.5 starting lineman per team across the country. Considering there are 22 starters per team on offense and defense, not including special teams, we get 38.6% of starters that tend to be OL/DL. Maybe 247 Sports tries to be "fair" to all positions, so the number of top100 is distributed by share of roles on a team.
