IF the NFL has a Strike/Lock Out next year, CU REALLY needs to have a good year with a new coach and new league.

If by some miracle this happens, what are the chances of us grabbing a good amount of the football market share in the area permanently? (not huge but...)

I was a huge Avs fan before the strike a few years ago, during that same year the Nuggets had a great year. When the NHL started playing again I just couldn't get into it the same way.

Here is hoping.:thumbsup:

I thought there was going to be a work stoppage in basketball, not football.
 
This title's correct - this is a great chance for CU. With such a great coach and system in-place, and so many top players returning, CU Football will be ready next year.
 
You folks who think we can win over Broncos fans are hilarious. Short of the Broncos leaving town, there will not be any measurable switch from Broncos to Buffs, regalrdless of how the teams are faring. They are not really a comparable product.
 
I'm not saying that Folsom will be packed and Invesco will be left empty, but if there is no other football available in the area next year, there is a chance that some of those people might come up to boulder and go to games. If they bring their kids and the kids fall in love with it, we are breeding new fans into the program. Maybe they go back to the Broncos after the hold out, but it is a chance to bring CU in a positive light and maybe grab a few more fans in the Denver area.
 
The NFL is starting to have an image problem. They're not selling out a lot of their stadiums, and are actively looking for ways to bring attendance up to avoid blackouts. No way do they allow a work stoppage. Not gonna happen. They'll do anything they can to avoid it.

Part of the issue they're having is that the atmosphere at the typical NFL game is roughly equivalent to a hospital operating room. Very stale. College football is a better gameday experience. The NFL knows this.
 
I really think CU needs to market itself against the Broncos. It's a much better value for a family to go to a Buffs game.

That only works if we're winning, imo, but that's a message that needs to get out there.

Either way, you can't tell what they're saying unless you're in or near the student section, IMO.
 
The NFL is dead for me. Sacky is right, the atmosphere is too homogenized. Add in the riff-raff element that attends the games and I can do without it. Parity is killing the NFL because it makes an upset an impossibility...anybody can beat anybody etc. With players cahnging teams so frequently through the FA process, the turnover for the average player is now shorter than CFB IMO. To top it all off, ticket prices are ridiculous, and it seems every team runs the same O and D. It is like cheering for a number at a roulette wheel. I used to be a Cowboy fan, but I couldn't watch the whole game last night...boring and jam packed with commercials. The NFL is the Wal-mart of sports now...
 
As long as the corporate tax-breaks allow write-offs for tix, prices will stay high. The same ones who decry "entitlement hand-outs" are the ones that love corporate tax-breaks - their own entitlement. Get rid of those "biz entertainment" entitlements and Jerry Jones couldn't have his project underwritten by the American taxpayer.

That's what I cheer. And I agree that you can't tell what the students are yelling.
