Maryland's expectations are higher than what he had achieved. What killed him is the Covid season because he'd won the B1G and had a team that could have made a deep tourney run.

I was driving around listening to Baltimore sports talk radio when it hit the news. Of course it was all speculative, there was some talk that he complained to the AD about getting booed at home, and that that conversation probably went off the rails and resulted in "mutual parting". The consensus seemed to be that the expectation is be a perennial top 20, with perennial top 10 aspirations. The fan base is still sour that the brand wasn't good enough to get Jay Wright when they hired Turgeon. Gary Williams was very successful and dearly loved, it's quite a shadow to live in.
