2024 Colorado Haters Thread

What I won't get at any point is the need to tear down Travis as a person and his accomplishments as an athlete just because they think their guy is better. Can't just say that the voters got it wrong, they have to be vicious and trumpet stuff that isn't even true. Just another way the internet and social media has made us worse as human beings.

I do think that media members in general probably have the best overall overview of the sport out of the relevant groups (players, coaches, journalists). Now the question which members you give a vote to is certainly debateable. I also think there's a place for the AP and Coaches poll, but I don't think they should be released until Week 6 or 7 (roughly the halfway point of the season) as the current system reinforces the point I keep making about the big name programs getting the benefit of the doubt. Everyone should start at zero as, especially in this day and age with the portal creating an unprecedented level of player turnover from season to season, we just don't know **** about most teams before the season and there's a heavy bias towards teams that were successful the previous season and it takes a while for things to reset and regress to the mean both for teams doing better than expected but also for teams doing worse than anticipated. I realise that the ultimately relevant ranking is the one by the CFP committee, but the AP poll helps shape perception and the narrative. But then I also realise that the US sports media has a fetish with rankings (probably also because it's a cheap and easy way to create engagement with your content, especially if you throw some rage bait).

Yes, I think someone that was the best at their sport 80 years ago is still a better vote than someone who spends his time polishing SEC dicks for fun while not being able to name more than 2 players on 99% of teams outside the conference

The AP Poll helps shape bias and predetermined outcomes. It makes for a worse overall ranking system and not for a better one.

There's way too many people who have a Heisman vote, it's around 1000. I recall seeing some of the names a few years ago and I couldn't believe some of the names who were on it.

At least with the AP you only have beat writers for pretty much all the major programs around the country as well as a number of people who cover the sport on a national level.

I think the point is that the comparison of competition is obvious.

Why does G5 not have its own Championship and awards. I get antitrust, but a whole level of teams and players fighting for recognition in an imbalanced situation

New transfer rules are going to continue to take any talent out of G5

Once they won 9 games I think most of the “we want to show that CU is all flash no substance” mentality went away. Not having the Shedeur and Travis hype also dampens that.

I think CU is now viewed as a solid, but unspectacular 20-40th in the country type of program. People are still sleeping on what this 2025 team is going to do.
