4 Big East teams go down

The Big East has clearly under-performed in this tournament but it doesn't take away from the fact that they were best conference during the regular season. Just like the ACC isn't suddenly the best conference simply because they got 3 teams into the Sweet 16.

Heard a CBS.com guy on the radio. He said the Big East has a lot of good teams but no great team. Is that accurate?

I think there's alot of truth to that because the big reason the conference was the best this season was because of its depth. Of the 11 BE teams that got in, 9 were seeded 6th or better. The BE had a number of teams ranked in the top 10 at various points of the season but only Pitt was up there consistently, and they were clearly the biggest under-achiever of the BE teams.

I read a similar type article written before the tournament start which stated that the BE may not end up a Final 4 team because it has a lack of elite talent.

Mock drafts are not infallible and will change multiple times before the teams actually choose players, but most are compiled with some level of consultation from NBA personnel. And of the three most high-profile – at DraftExpress.com, NBADraft.net and ESPN.com – only three Big East players are projected as first rounders.

Walker is one. Brooks, whose Providence team will not play in the tournament, is another. The third is Villanova center Mouphtaou Yarou, who will play in the tournament but hasn’t yet performed like a lock to be picked in the first round of any draft.

By contrast, Kansas has four players mentioned in the various mocks. North Carolina has three. Texas, Kentucky and Duke all have multiple players on those lists and that’s not even counting the one – Kyrie Irving – who isn’t playing.
