Al Golden makes a ton of sense

Buffnik

Real name isn't Nik
Club Member
Junta Member
After thinking about the "basketball model" thread, I came back to Golden.

1. Current BCS head coach
2. Turn around record while at Temple
3. High character guy

When Miami restructured and extended Golden's contract last year (2011) following Miami's self-imposed bowl ban for that post-season, Golden was assured by the university that would be the extent of the self-imposed penalties.

I haven't seen the new contract, but supposedly there is a huge buyout since it runs through 2019. I think it's capped at $2 million per year in compensation. Allegedly, the extension included language that if Miami self-imposed more penalties or the NCAA hammer dropped, Golden could leave for another job with the buyout waived.

November 19, 2012: Miami self-imposes bowl ban for 2012

November 21, 2012: NCAA has sent a letter to former Cane players that they either talk or Shapiro's claims will be assumed true

I'm hoping that all of the leaks and misdirection is to throw us off the scent and CU is really targeting Golden while waiting to see if he can get out of his contract.

Agreed that this makes sense but, you can make a sensible argument for about 15 guys

I think he would stay at Miami before he would come to CU. He has put in his time building a program already.

Would feel much better about Golden than Jones. I'd even chip in to get him a nice collection of black and gold neck ties to wear on gamedays.

He might like the situation at CU:
1. Make same or better $
2. Get out of the hyper-competitive southeast
3. No-lose situation, nowhere to go but up

Talked with Al personally a couple times during his stint at UVA. Would be a dream hire and get us back to where we need to be. Great guy and would make a huge splash in Boulder. It's no secret he's not the happiest at Miami.

Like Golden. Neckties equal class.

Sign me up.
You sure about that?
