Has anyone else noticed the abundance of helmets coming off of players during contact in college games this year? Now, I am not an equipment engineer or doctor, but this would lead me to think that the helmets aren't fitting correctly and this may be leading to more concussions. My wife, who is not football savvy, even remarked last weekend about how it used to be a rarity, but now it occurs 1-2 times per Qtr, per game. We watched about 6-7 hours of College ball on Saturday and eventually counted 17 helmets being lost during contact :wow:. Watched about 4 hours of NFL and saw 1. Even saw some guys lose their helmet and continue through the play until the whistle blew. Now that is a hard-nosed football player, but can you imagine the damage if he unfortunately took a head to helmet shot on the play?
Now, now I am in no way thinking we should have more rules to "protect" players that lose their helmets. Hell, I hate half the player "protection" rules we have now (Damn it is TACKLE football people) I just think these players need to have equipment that works.
