Brooks: Time For Special Teams To Become Special

News Junkie
Sparkling special teams play didn't show up in many of Colorado's nine losses in 2009. In fact, Kent Riddle can tell you what happened on CU's special teams had a large hand (even a larger foot) in most of those defeats.

BG Brooks, one of the few CUAD employees who is keeping it real.

Yes. W/L is a factor of measurable statistics. When your Special Teams or Offense ranks in the bottom of the conference, your team isn't going to win.

I'm more concerned about special teams than any other aspect of this team. Scared to death. I have this awful feeling in my gut that we're in for another abysmal season of special teams. Patterson should help things in the return game - hopefully.

I'd argue that it's time for special teams to stop being special.

Yeah. I like our return teams with Patterson and B-Lock. I like our kickoff coverage, since it was pretty good last year.

Punt team and field goal teams are scaring the hell out of me. If Goodman and Grossnickle can just be average this year, we'll be overall better than average on special teams. I won't believe it until I see it, though.

I'm afraid that we're going to see some shanked punts and again see any FG over 40 yards be a likely miss. I also worry about getting some blocked, because our snappers are not going to consistently get the ball back as quickly or accurately as Drescher did.
