Buffs at the Olympics- Detail schedules, information and race discussion

After having watched the race live via stream, the race has just started on NBC (at least in the Mountain timezone).

A couple prelim articles (assume more will be added later)-
Cubuffs - http://www.cubuffs.com/news/2016/8/16/olympians-simpson-claims-bronze-in-olympic-1-500.aspx
Buffzone- http://www.buffzone.com/ci_30255232/jenny-simpson-former-cu-track-star-claims-bronze

In the above linked Cubuffs article's note section, it sounds like there's been a 5th Buff alum they've found who's earned an Olympic bid and can be rooted for later this week. From the article " Former CU skier Katerinia Nash (competing for the Czech Republic) will compete in the mountain biking event ....", (I'l add her and information on her event to the OP.)

bumping this because I need someplace to comment on Will's redonkulous remarks in the BSN podcast

no respect for the banana stand

The women triathletes, including Bermudian Buff Flora Duffy, are in the water, with the swimming portion of the race just about over.

Ms. Duffy had a small (~20 yards) lead at the beginning of the biking portion of the race, but she went back to the pack (as is common in bike racing to get the energy preservation and aerodynamics of the pelaton).

After Lap 1 of 8 of the Bike part of the race, Ms. Duffy was pacing the lead group of ~20-25 racers.

After lap 4 of 8, Ms. Duffy part of a lead group of 18. (She surged going up a hill part of the course after lap 5 started to see if anyone else would go with her to try and break up the group, but no one else went with her. She continues to do quite a bit of pace making.)

After the bike ride, the group of 18 leaders were largely intact. Lap 1 of 4 of the final running part of the race just completed. 2 runners (American jorgenson and the defending Olympic champ from Switzerland) have a 17 second gap to a group of 4 runners. Looks like Buff Duffy is another `16 seconds back. in around 8-9 place(???). Long way to go yet (over 4 miles?), so hopefully she can at least get in a medal hunt. Of course, even a Top 10 finish would be great.

Ms. Duffy, in 9th, now an even minute behind the leaders and 37 seconds behind 3rd place after lap 2 of the run is completed.

Ms. Duffy in 8th going into the final lap of the run a little over a minute behind the leaders and ~45 seconds behind the 3rd place/ bronze contending runners. Looks like she could finish in the 7th-9th place range based on gaps ahead and behind her assuming she and/ or other runners don't crater on the course.

Race ends with Flora Duffy finishing a solid 8th place. Congrats to her!!!!

From an American perspective, great result as Gwen Jorgenson, who sounds like a dominant player in triathlon (? I don't follow it that closely), pulls away easily in the last lap, wins big (~40 seconds) and earns the 1st U.S. triathlon gold medal ever.
