Any hire that we make is not necessarily guaranteed to right this ship after Titanic Dan is gone (which game this year will be his "iceberg"?). Not Mac, not EB, McElwain, Calhoun, etc.
But reading thru the threads on all of the prospective coaches, I see one thing that each at least can bring to the table (I'm not including Logan in this!): generally pretty damn solid resumes and coaching or coordinating experience. EB doesn't have that coaching/coordinating experience, but I do like his recruiting ability and NFL credibility he could bring. The debate of course, is who's resume is best for us in Boulder.
That's where we missed the boat on Hawk in 2006. We glossed right over his experience and salivated at that 53-11 record at Boise.
Hawk's coaching experience prior to being the HC at Boise:
1998-2001: Tight Ends/Special Teams -- Boise
1993-1997: Head Coach -- Willamette
1992: Def Coordinator -- Sonoma St. University
1988-1991: Off. Coordinator -- College of the Siskiyous (Calif)
1986-1987: Head Coach -- Christian Brothers High School (Calif)
1984-1985: Head Freshman Coach/Linebackers Coach -- UC Davis
Am I missing something here??? Hawk's resume is lengthy, but not very distinguished (to play off Top Gun, of course). Actually, it's not distinguished at all...
Let me know if I'm wrong, but maybe this resume might very well explain the lack of smart gameplanning and game time decisions we've seen here game after game since day 1 (Montana St). Really, what kind of coordinator x's and o's smarts did he bring with him?? We got snookered when we hired Titanic Dan.
At least with the names that seem to be on our list, there is hope for us going into the PAC. We will see better decisions made and maybe some of our players can be fully developed, resulting in what we want: Wins!
Thoughts?
