Colorado not only lost badly at Washington on Saturday, it lost two of its best players.
Junior linebacker Douglas Rippy needs season-ending surgery after tearing ligaments in his knee in Seattle, the school reported. Senior tailback Rodney Stewart sprained his knee and will be out two to four weeks.
Rippy is the Buffaloes' leading tackler, Stewart its leading rusher and No. 2 receiver behind Paul Richardson, who is also out with an injury.
Stewart was in a long-shot pursuit to become Colorado's all-time leading rusher before the injury. He owns 3,217 career rushing yards. His offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy owns the school rushing mark at 3,940.
Colorado fell to 1-6 after the 52-24 loss at Washington. It plays host to No. 10 Oregon on Saturday.

Injury problems? Consider this from the Buffs official website:
Colorado has thus far in 2011 lost a total of 59 games to injury by players who figured in either the two-deep or prominently on special teams, or just under 20 percent of the possible 308 (seven games times 44). That projects to be the second-highest figure in the last 25 seasons at the school.
CU will also be without senior receiver Kyle Cefalo for this Saturday’s game against Oregon (1:30 p.m., FSN); he, too, suffered a knee sprain against Washington. Sophomore receiver Paul Richardson (knee), senior cornerback Brian Lockridge (ankle) and senior cornerback Travis Sandersfeld (leg) all remain out with injuries they sustained in earlier games.
