CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

What would stop a 2-member board from dipping into the 2023-24 athletic year revenue distribution to pay the buyouts for schools they want to join in order to rebuild the membership with another 10-14 schools?
That money was EARNED by those schools playing in those appearances. Free market still appreciates earned revenue going to the earning party

The lawsuits to follow where the departing schools win that the remaining schools have no power to distribute those funds for any other purpose than 23-24 compensation.
Plus, those lawsuits get filed separately in every state with a school.

You could even file separate lawsuits for every departing school in the same state. They'd likely be joined together once the defense filed the appropriate motion, but make the defense do the work.

Bottom line is that if they try and take everything, they'll get less because the other 10 are capable of drowning them in legal fees. 10 separate lawsuits in 6 different states is not an inexpensive proposition. Especially when, checks notes, the plaintiffs essentially are the biggest/best law schools in those states.

This has been my fear since the whole...did they give notice...did they not give notice discussion a couple months ago.

Ie, if the pac2 wins this ultimately after appeals, they have complete control of the entire conference for the next year and can do whatever they choose to do with distributions.

Washington's going to appeal it on behalf of the other nine. If the Supreme Court up there takes this case, the departing schools are in much better shape.

We can't ****ing get out of this absolute ****-show of a conference quickly enough.

The schools in the Past-10 are going to fight tooth and nail. It's too much money not to. Some are taking a huge hit in AD revenues, they're also looking at higher expenses, and even some places like UA that have a better conference deal have announced massive budget shortfalls (UA just released that the school is going to take drastic measures since the university itself is going to be short by well over $200M). But on the other side, the 2Pac members are fighting for the very survival of their football programs as drivers which give them national exposure and can draw more than 35k people to a game. There are also current budget problems for them in addition to the desperate situation in football & long-term AD revenue.

you weren’t expecting a Wazzu booster to make that ruling?
This.

Judge hearing this case and issuing this ruling was literally the chair of the local wazzu booster club at multiple points in the past.

I mean, I get it, it's a small district, wazzu is the largest institution in that district and is consequently involved in quite a few legal disputes and as a practical matter he can't recuse himself on every single one because there's no other judge to hear them.

But most of those are routine dumbass law things.

Do you really think any ruling he issues on a substantive matter is going to be competely unbiased?

And, depending on your answer to the above, are you interested in purchasing a bridge in @BuffsNYC's backyard?

Wazzu AD is a complete mess financially. For their own survival, they can't take a 20 million a year hit. They will pull any and all strings to just survive.

So where is that...lucrative financial package for the MWC to distribute....coming from?

This is a load! I hope that the deal drops out at the last possible minute because these two salty exes pull the cart before the horse and that “money” is distributed to the rightful participants in this zombie conference.

Something to keep in mind with OSU/WSU is they have to tread lightly and have good timing with building the Pac back up to a full sized conference. They won't be sympathetic figures to the public or the courts if they break apart another conference to serve thrown ends and, in the process, cause some other schools to get kicked into the street.

Also do they really want to make enemies of all of the major regional schools leaving to Big 12/10?

Burning bridges could have significant financial consequences down the road.

How long until we can rejoin the PAC 2?

It's still a game of financial chicken between the Pac-2 and the leaving 10. The Pac-2 are using the threat of withholding hold funds to get what they want, the leaving 10 is going to use the threat of infinite litigation to get what they want.

I still think the final result will be the leaving 10 get disbursements, the Pac-2 get to hold onto the conference name and history.

The Washington State Supreme Court issued a temporary stay of Tuesday's preliminary injunction that was set to grant control of the Pac-12 board of directors to Oregon State and Washington State on Monday.

The court's ruling came a day after the University of Washington, working on behalf of the ten schools set to depart the Pac-12 at the end of the academic year, filed an emergency motion to stay Tuesday's ruling and extend a temporary restraining order that had been in place since September. That TRO prevents any board action without unanimous consent of the 12 current members.

Thursday's procedural ruling was not exactly what Washington requested, but it does have a similar impact in the short term as OSU and WSU will not control the conference board beginning Monday. Instead, both parties have been asked to file briefs regarding Washington's emergency stay request, with the court asking for those to be filed by Nov. 28 and a reply by Dec. 8.

I think the Pac2 get the lions share of the money and the others give up since they moved on and their legal fees are mounting.

Gonna be fun to watch conference championship week. The trophy presentations could be so awkward.

Looking forward to seeing the ACC commish present to FSU (announced trying to leave), P12 to either UO or UW, and B12 to a UT that was only showing SEC highlights in its stadium yesterday with Yormark in attendance.
