BOULDER — The 19th-ranked Colorado volleyball team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of Pac-12 Conference matches in the Bay Area. On Friday, Oct. 7, the Buffs will take on seventh-ranked Stanford at 7 p.m. MT in Stanford, Calif. Then on Sunday, Oct. 9, Cal will host the Buffs in Berkeley, Calif. with a 4 p.m. MT start.

Both matches will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Mountain and Pac-12 Bay Area.

Live Video- As noted above, both matches are available on Pac 12 Mountain and Bay Area Networks stations, and those whose cable/ satellite subscription includes the Pac 12 network should also be able to view either match via http://pac-12.com/live .

Good luck to the Buffs tomorrow!

Note- For the 2nd year in a row***, Stanford's national championship hopes took a hit as it's been announced one of their best players Hayley Hodson (the reigning National Freshman of the Year and #1 ranked recruit in her class out of high school) will be out for the rest of the year (http://www.gostanford.com/news/2016/10/5/womens-volleyball-hodson-to-miss-remainder-of-season.aspx ; credit to the Volleytalk forum for the link.). She'd already been out quite a few matches, and Stanford (being Stanford) probably has the best depth overall in the conference, so the Buffs will of course still have their hands VERY full with the Trees.
(***Last season, Stanford lost probably their best player (middle blocker Inky Ajanaku) to injury before the season started. She did take a redshirt and is a senior on this year's team.)

Best wishes to Ms. Hodson for a speedy and strong recovery.

Article says Hodson is taking a medical leave of absence from school.

Washington State beat the Trees last weekend so they are going to be ready to win.
 
Buffs fall WAY behind early in the 1st set (believe 2-9), but hopefully get some confidence from playing relatively even after that before losing the set 17-25.
 
Nice comeback as the Buffs hold a narrow lead for much of the 2nd set and keep it through the end and even the match with a 25-23 set win!

Stanford pulls away late in the 3rd set and wins 25-19. Now up 2 sets to 1 over the Buffs.
 
Buffs play pretty good in the 4th, but Stanford just hits a huge numbers of great angle shots that hit the line, and get 7-8 blocks in the set, so win set 4 18-25.

Buffs played OK. Just need to shake this one off and take it to Cal Sunday.

 
Watched 3rd and 4th. Would have liked to have forced a 5th in Palo Alto v. a top ten team. Ouch.
 
Saw the entire match. Very impressed by Stanford and their athleticism. Buffs did play just okay, but from what I saw last night, Stanford is a better team.

Cal has not won a match in the Pac. If Buffs have any chance of going to NCAA tourney, they best win on Sunday.
 
Buffs need to learn how to be better at tooling blocks rather than hitting into the heart of the block. Stanford has a tall front line and a really good block. But so do other PAC teams. This isn't that last time the Buffs will see this against them. Need to improve in this area.
 

(Looks like it's one of those Sunday afternoon's where the Buffs will need to be VERY attentive and bring GREAT energy. In the Pac, already had the undefeated and early favorite WSU get swept (although it was against the Ducks, who have only one loss in conference), Utah's up 2 sets to 1 and 14-9 in the 4th over Stanford, and Arizona already came back from 0-2 to take down UCLA today.)

Uh Oh- Buffs give the winless Bears a confidence boost by losing the 1st set 22-25.

Note- Buffs facing an extra challenge today, as their emotional leader and major kill and block producer Joslyn Hayes is evidently out. (Didn't hear what's up with her on the broadcast. Frosh Justine Spann is playing on the right side with Ms. Hayes out.)
 
Buffs NCAA dreams are over after that loss. Hard to watch. Didn't seem to have much energy.
