LAS VEGAS – The University of Colorado tennis team had an impressive first day at the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships, with four players and one doubles teams advancing in main draw action.
The day began with doubles play, and the Buffs duo of sophomore Jeannez Daniel and junior Nuria Ormeno Ruiz defeated Montana State’s Naomi Holopainen and Laura Middel, 8-4, to improve to 2-1 as a duo this fall. CU’s duo of freshman Annabelle Andrinopoulos and sophomore Tina Bokhua are seeded as the No. 6 team and received a bye.

Later in the day in singles action, four of five Buffs advanced into the second round while Bokhua, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, received a bye into the second round.
Andrinopoulos, the No. 12 seed, defeated Nevada’s Monika Magusiak, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Ormeno Ruiz, seeded No. 10, blanked Air Force’s Veronica Dodds, 6-0, 6-0. Both advance to 4-0 on the season after both won their draws in the CU Invitational to open the season.
Daniel defeated New Mexico State’s Gabby Joyce, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the second round and improve to 3-1 on the season in singles action while sophomore Kyra Wojcik defeated Air Force’s Lily Forlini, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, and evened her singles record to 2-2 on the season.
Senior Alex Aiello fell to Boise State’s Bobbi Oshiro, 6-2, 6-3, in her first action of the fall after returning from a knee injury.
