VERY happy there's soon going to be another great Buff team to watch compete and root for, as lacrosse officially begins its season this Saturday, facing off against the ranked Gators in Gainesville. The Buffs will be looking for a solid start to the season, and will need it as they've lost to Florida by identical 9-16 scores the past 2 regular seasons (2018 in Gainesville and last season in Boulder), and the Gators also defeated the Buffs in the 2nd round of the 2018 NCAA tourney by a 9-13 score.

(Great that Florida is streaming the match on Youtube. Thanks to them.)

GO BUFFS!!!

BOULDER — The University of Colorado lacrosse team will start its 2020 campaign against the Florida Gators this Saturday, February 8, at 10 a.m. MT/12 p.m. ET in Gainesville, Fla.

This will be a top-20 match-up as CU starts the season ranked 18th in the IWLCA Preseason Poll while Florida is ranked 14th.

The Buffaloes finished the 2019 season with an 11-8 mark while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. UF was 14-7 last season, which included a 1-1 record in the NCAA Tournament as the Gators fell in the second round.

THE SERIES: Florida leads the series against CU, 3-0, with two of those wins coming in Gainesville during the 2018 season. The two teams met early in the regular season before meeting up again in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Florida made its first visit to Boulder on Feb. 9, 2019, and won 16-9.

HOW TO WATCH: The game will be streamed on YouTube. Links to the live stream and live stats will be available at CUBuffs.com.

UP NEXT: The Buffs will play their season opener on February 21 against Harvard, but will have a quick turnaround as they will hop on a plane and head east to face Michigan on February 23 in Ann Arbor, Mich.

HOME GAME INFORMATION: All of Colorado's home games will be played at Kittredge Field and admission is free, as is parking in Lot 416. Overflow parking is available in the RG lot on the north side of the CU Events Center.

It's 5 all with around 10 minutes left as the Buffs just survived a yellow card penalty. The Buffs were up 5-2 midway through the half.

The Buffs with 4 yellows already, and are now going to be short one of their goal scorers as the last 2 (within 10 minutes of each other) have both been to Charlie Rudy, so she's now out for the game. (Hope these refs are inpartial.)

Still 5 all, but Florida with the player advantage.

Florida gets its 1st lead of the day 5-6 as it finally scores its 1st goal while the Buffs were a player short. Around 2:30 left in the half.

And the Buffs immediately answer to tie it at 6 as they end a 13+ minute goal drought with around 44 seconds left.

AND then, the Buffs with yet another yellow call against them as the half ends.

I know next to nothing about lacrosse, and it always takes me awhile to get into the pace of the game early in the season AND to remember what's normal and what's not, but I can't remember the Buffs ever having 5 yellows for a game, let alone a half. Be interesting to hear if there have been any rule changes that are accounting for these, the Buffs are being over aggressive, and/ or the refs are homers. (The gators have 1 yellow called against them.)

As the 2nd half begins, the Buffs once again survive the penalty (believe they've only gave up 1 goal while under yellow), then Grozier, who had been called for the penalty, earns a hat trick to give the Buffs a 7-6 lead early in the 2nd half.

This is going to be a nail biter- Buffs went up 2 as Grozier scored her 4th, then florida ties it up with 2 in about 30 seconds. 8 all with still over 22 minutes left in the game.

Bad luck for the Buffs, as a deflected shot off a shooting space penalty shot finds the net and gives the gators a lead with 3:39 left.

the gators held the ball for most of the remaining time, and the Buffs can't get a shot off in the last ~40 seconds of the game they have it, so they remain winless vs. the gators after a 10-11 loss.

Oh well, definitely a TOUGH loss to start the season, but it is just the start, and saw many good things from the team- can't wait for the rest of the season!

need to be more disciplined for sure. Not having Rudy probably made a difference as she is one of their best scorers, but I think this is the closest CU has been to Florida. Looks like it will be a good eason

Losing on the road by one to a team ranked above it after leading most of the game hasn't seemed to cost the Buffs in the rankings, as they remain #18 in the main (Coaches') poll.
