It's the end of the regular season for #13/15*** ranked women's basketball (20-7 overall; 10-6 in Pac 12 play), as they host the Washington squads in the last regular season games they will have as Pac 12 members. 1st off is a Thursday evening contest with the Washington Huskies (15-12,5-11), followed up with a Saturday matinee regular-season ender with Washington State Cougars (WSU;17 -12, 6-10).
***The team is #13 in the AP (media poll) and #15 in the coaches' poll. There are often small differences between the polls, but in this case wanted to mention that it could also be a timing difference since the media poll is released on Monday's while the coaches' poll is on Tuesday. Therefore, the later poll may at least for some voters be reflecting the Monday night loss to the now #8 Bruins.

Both games are scheduled to be shown on one or more Pac 12 Network channels. (Further info and links for media options available near the bottom of this thread.)

Note- In the last NET Rankings (for games played through 2/26/24, https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-women/d1/ncaa-womens-basketball-net-rankings), CU is at #16, while the Dawgs are #49 and Cougars #25. (Shows how ridiculously strong the Pac 12 is this season in that with their NET ranking I'm assuming WSU is considered solidly in the NCAA Tourney, and yet they're 6-10 in conference play.)

Go Buffs!!!

13th-Ranked Colorado Closes Out Regular Season: Five Things to Know

Buffs host Washington and Washington State

By: Seth Pringle, Athletic Communications

BOULDER –
The No. 13 Colorado women's basketball team looks to get back in the win column when it returns home to the CU Events Center for the final week of the regular season. The Buffaloes will host Washington (Thursday) and Washington State (Saturday) to wrap up the week that started on the road at UCLA on Monday.

Colorado (20-7, 10-6 Pac-12) has dropped its last four games, all against top-25 opponents. The current winless streak is the longest the Buffs have had to endure since losing four straight from Jan. 14-23, 2022. All four of the losses have been games decided by eight points or less.

Washington (15-12, 5-11 Pac-12) swept the Oregon schools at home last week for the second consecutive season. The 10-point win over then No. 9 Oregon State was its first double-digit win in Pac-12 play this season. The Huskies are 3-6 this season against AP-ranked opponents and are currently situated 10th in the conference standings.

Washington State (17-12, 6-10 Pac-12) snapped a five-game home-losing streak with a 71-61 win over Oregon last Sunday. The win guaranteed WSU a winning record on the season, marking the first time WSU has had three consecutive winnings seasons since 1976-77 to 1978-79.

Five things to know
  1. The Buck Stops Here – CU's four-game slide is its longest since 2022. The Buffs haven't lost five consecutive games since an 0-11 stretch in the 2018-19 season. Colorado last avoided a fifth straight loss with a 66-62 overtime win at Utah back on Jan. 28, 2022.
  2. More Honors Rolling in – Jaylyn Sherrod landed herself on two more national watch lists this week. On Tuesday, she was one of 40 players named to the Drysdale National Player of the Year and USBWA All-America watch lists.
  3. Senior Sendoffs – Saturday's game against WSU will be the final regular season home game for six CU players. The team will honor Sophie Gerber, Maddie Nolan, Tameiya Sadler, Charlotte Whittaker, Quay Miller and Sherrod in a postgame ceremony.
  4. All-Time Starts – Sherrod will become CU's all-time leader in games started with two more starts this season. She enters the final two games with 126 career starts. She will presumably tie Erin Scholz, Shelley Sheetz and Brittany Spears on Thursday and surpass the trio on Saturday.
  5. Offensively Inclined – Colorado is averaging 76.0 ppg this season. It is the highest scoring average under head coach JR Payne and its best since scoring 76.1 ppg in the 2001-02 season. The Buffs are averaging 80.0 ppg in their 20 wins this season.

Thursday's game (7 p.m. MT) is the team's Play4Kay night. The team will sport pink accessories and will support and honor cancer survivors throughout the night. The team will have five cancer survivors serve as honorary team captains. Fans can donate to the Kay Yow Cancer Fun here.

Saturday's game (1 p.m. MT) is Senior Day. The team will honor the six departing seniors postgame. Pregame, the Buffs will have a ball presentation ceremony with their Team IMPACT recruit, Bellamy.

Jenny Cavnar and former Buff Ariana Prather will be on the call for both games on the Pac-12 Network.

Cory Lopez and Carol Callan will be live from courtside starting 30 minutes to tip-off on the Colorado Radio Network.

There is a name missing for the Senior Day honorees. That would be Frida Formann. Is she going to return for her Covid year? She is in the last class that can have that year.

Know I have my hopes up for another season of Three-da!

Frida, Vonleh and Wetta would be a core that could win the Big 12 if JR can add a high end piece or two to that.

Washington comes into tonight's game having won two home games v the Oregon schools (Reagan Beers was injured for OSU). Prior to that they had lost six in row. They did win at USC earlier in the season.

In the first meeting this season in Seattle the Buffs won 80-57.

We need a sweep this week. Definitely do-able. Play our game; don't let the other team dictate the pace or energy. It's crunch time! Go Buffs!!

That block by Jaylyn is one of the most impressive basketball plays I've seen this year. Recognition, recovery, speed, hops, not to mention getting the ball back and pushing it up court for a CU basket

39-28 at half.

If we win, there's a good chance we'll be in a 4-way tie for 3rd in the conference.

Watching in person, the team seemed flat emotionally and so did the crowd. Good thing Maddy Nolan was deadly from deep (6-7).

Hope Jaylyn is 100% by Saturday. JR really didn't want to put her back in after the elbow to her face, but was forced to by all the turnovers in the last minute and a half or so.

CU really needs to get their heads back in the game before they go to Vegas.

No. 13 Buffs Secure Victory Over Washington

Nolan sets new CU career-high in points

By: Colin Wagner, CU Athletic Communications Associate

BOULDER –
The No. 13 Colorado Buffaloes women's basketball team got back on track after taking down the Washington Huskies 68-62 at the CU Events Center Thursday night.

After a four-game skid, the Buffs (21-7, 11-6 Pac-12) averted a late comeback bid made by the Huskies (15-13, 5-12 Pac-12) to return home with a win. Eight of nine Colorado players who saw game action converted at least one field goal in the 40 minutes.

"I'm just really happy to be back at home," head coach JR Payne expressed. "I'm really happy with how we played in spurts. Certainly not 40 minutes, but we played really well in spurts on both sides of the floor. Pushing through fatigue and some injury. I knew we'd be tired. I was really happy with how we responded. A lot of different people came in and really contributed at different times. Playing through frustration and missing some shots we normally make, but we kept our heads in the game. When the game was on the line, we were able to execute and do some good things. I'm just proud and happy to be back in the win column. Excited to be home. Happy that Senior Day is coming up."

Maddie Nolan led all players in scoring after cashing in on six 3-pointers (6-for-7), four of which came in the first half. She finished with a new CU career-high 20 points.

"It definitely felt nice," Nolan expressed. "My teammates, as always, do a great job of finding me and you saw a couple times Jaylyn [Sherrod] kick ahead to me in transition and I passed it back but it's nice to play with people that know where you are on the floor and are always looking for you."

Frida Formann was also a big contributor offensively, catching fire in the second quarter with 10 points and helping the Buffs gain a comfortable lead in the first half. A big difference-maker was Colorado's ability to share the ball, especially from Tameiya Sadler and Kindyll Wetta who combined for 10 of the team's 13 assists.

The Buffs seemed to have more depth than the Huskies, outscoring Washington 15-0 off the bench. The Buffs were able to push through late in the game, despite 12 second-half turnovers and only nine fourth-quarter points.

Colorado will be back at the CU Events Center on Saturday to faceoff against Washington State at 1 p.m.
...

KEY MOMENT
With seven minutes left in the third quarter, back-to-back 3-pointers from Wetta and Nolan put the Buffs up by 15 to force a Washington timeout.

NEXT
No. 13 Colorado will take on the Washington State Cougars on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. MT.

NOTES

I am very happy this team won their game. I would like to know what happened in the 4th quarter.

This team has to put together 40 minutes if they expect to do well in the NCAA tournament.

Frida got them going early and then Maddie took over.

Netty finally got going. This was not one of her better games.

Wetta is a baller on defense.

Hoping Sherrod can play well on Saturday. She probably has a broken nose. Apparently she didn't like the feel of the face shield because she took it off and played without it when she came back in at the end of the 4th quarter. We need Sherrod in the game.

Washington State got soundly beaten by Utah, but this team must be ready.

In the Buffs Blast, Frida is not in the photo. I really hope she is going to return for her Covid year.
