Over the next 2 weeks lacrosse (6-5 overall; 2-0 in the Big 12) has a 3 game home streak, with a rivalry matchup with DU sandwiched by 2 weekend conference games. 1st off is probably the biggest Big 12 challenge of the regular season as the #4 ranked Florida Gator (10-2, 2-0) come to town this Saturday starting at 11:00 AM MT. Then, the DU Pioneers (8-5, 3-1 in Big East play) are up next in a Thursday night game. Finally, the UC Davis Aggies (5-7, 1-1) are in town Sunday (4/20) at noon for another conference matchup, the final regular season home so it's also Senior Day. (After that, there's only one game (at Cincinnati) left in the regular season.)

In the NCAA RPI ratings (for games through 4/6, https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/lacrosse-women/d1/ncaa-womens-lacrosse-rpi), CU is up to #21 in RPI, while Florida is #6, DU #36 and UCD #69 .

As has been the case throughout the season for home games, video coverage for all 3 games will be available for those who have a premium ($) ESPN+ subscription. (More info and links available near the bottom of this post.)

Go Buffs!!!

Colorado Lacrosse to Face No. 4 Florida in Big 12 Home Opener

The Buffs will go head-to-head with the Gators for just the fifth time ever, their seventh ranked opponent this season

By: Malala Pyle, Assistant Director of Athletic Communication

BOULDER –
The Colorado lacrosse team (6-5, 2-0 Big 12) hosts No. 4 Florida (11-2, 2-0) for its Big 12 home opener on Saturday, April 12. The Buffs' game against the Gators will be at Prentup Field at 11 a.m. MT.

The Buffs look for their first program win over a top-five opponent in their fifth meeting all-time with the fourth-ranked Gators. This is the second time CU has faced a top-five opponent this season and the seventh time battling an IWLCA-ranked opponent. The last time Colorado met with Florida was in Gator country in 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the spring season (Feb. 8). The Black and Gold lost by just one goal, 11-10, the closest margin in the rivalry thus far.

Colorado wrapped up its road stint last week against Arizona State with a win over the Sun Devils, 14-13 (April 6). Three CU athletes ended the game with hat tricks, including graduate attacker Kendall Havill, who reached her 200th career point. Freshman goalkeeper Elena Oh recorded a clutch save that kept the Buffs from overtime and earned her Big 12 Freshman of the Week.

Sounds like there's a couple extra's offered for the game -

And, congrats to goalie Elena Oh for the 5th weekly conference honor! (It's her 1st frosh of the week acknowledgement after 4 goalie of the week honor.)

Watch out for how good this team can get with Oh in net, even this year, but especially over the next 3.

The Buffs went up early in this 1 4-1, and in spite of FL scoring with 17 seconds left still lead 7-6 heading into the half.

Colorado Ready for Final Regular Season Home Games Against No. 24 Denver and UC Davis

The Buffs take on their eighth ranked opponent in the Pioneers and host the Aggies for Senior Day

By: Malala Pyle, Assistant Director of Athletic Communication

BOULDER –
The Colorado lacrosse team (6-6, 2-1 Big 12) wraps up regular season home competition with No. 24 Denver (9-5, 3-1 Big East) on Thursday, April 17, and UC Davis (5-8, 1-2 Big 12) on Sunday, April 20. Both games will be at Prentup Field, and opening draws are set for 3 p.m. MT and 12 p.m. MT, respectively.

The Buffs look to snap a two-game losing streak in their series against the 24th-ranked Pioneers on Thursday. This is the 12th meeting of the teams all-time and the eighth time this season that Colorado is facing an IWLCA-ranked opponent. The last time CU met with Denver was last season on the Pioneers' turf, where the Buffs lost, 14-8. Going into their ninth meeting, the Buffs have beaten the Aggies in every matchup thus far, including in the Pac-12 Tournament last season, 13-10. CU has held UC Davis to seven or fewer goals in five of the eight games.

Colorado opened Big 12 play at home last week against No. 4 Florida. Graduate attacker Kendall Havill recorded her second game in a row with four goals, her second hat trick at CU; junior midfielder Lily Assini reached her 100th career draw control; and freshman goalkeeper Elena Oh had her third game with double-digit saves (11). Though the Buffs led in the first half and won in the draw circle (19-10), they fell to the Gators, 15-10.

After DU scored the 1st 3 and it took CU over 9 minutes to get on the board, it's tightened up and CU only trails 5-6 at the half.

It's less than 2-1/2 hours until the opening draw of today's senior day game!
(Again, please see above post about location change if planning on attending.)

The team also made nice individual posts for the 4 seniors (They didn't post anything individually for the 4 5th year student-athletes who were already also honored last season) -

Forgot to mention that Buffzone has a Pat Rooney written preview for the game available at https://www.dailycamera.com/2025/04/19/womens-lacrosse-seniors-look-to-finish-strong-for-cu-buffs/ .

Among many other things, it notes a win today would clinch a spot for the Buffs in the Big 12 tourney they're hosting (evidently only the top 4 finishers of the 6 team league get a tourney berth). Looking at the standings ( https://big12sports.com/standings.aspx?standings=216&path=wlax), believe if CU wins both today and in the regular season finale in Cincinnati, they'll MAYBE*** (???) be guaranteed the #2 seed. (***ASU, which also has only 1 loss, still needs to play conference leader Florida, but I'd GUESS (???) the Buffs should also hold the tiebreaker even if the Sun Devils pull the big upset since CU won in Tempe, although in that upset scenario it would be a 3 way tie for 1st, so I don't know what the tiebreaking scenarios might be.)

It became a running clock late in the 2nd quarter, and will be at the start of the 3rd, as the Buffs lead 12-1 at the half. (They've got this BIG lead even with the Aggie's goalie probably being their MVP with 13 saves. Shots on goal at the half are 25-2.)

An unfortunate trend came back in this one as CU (and/ or their opponents) looked like a different team in the 2nd half, but thanks to their great 1st half work they still earn a 15-9 win and clinch a Big12 tourney berth.

Way to go Buffs!

Buffs get a pass intercepted in the offensive end with a minute to go and can't get force a turnover. DU gets the win 8-9.
One of the freshmen on DU (who scored in the game) is my next door neighbor’s daughter. Wanted the Buffs to win, obviously, but glad she’s doing well.

Buffs Spook Aggies on Senior Day

Three Buffs had hat tricks, and eight Buffs were honored for Senior Day after the win

By: Malala Pyle, Assistant Director of Athletic Communication

BOULDER –
The Colorado lacrosse team (7-7, 3-1 Big 12) defeated UC Davis (5-9, 1-3), 15-9, at Kittredge Field on Sunday, April 20.

The Colorado Buffaloes celebrated their seniors with their third conference win against UC Davis. The first quarter saw a scoreless UC Davis trying to fend off the Buffs and their six goals. The second quarter saw hat tricks from both graduate attacker Madeline Pisani and junior midfielder Maddie Shoup. After ending the first half 13-4 (CU), Colorado continued its momentum with sophomore attacker Teagan Ryan earning herself another hat trick for the fourth time in her career. After back-and-forth goals between the Buffaloes and the Aggies, Colorado defeated UC Davis 15-9 (CU).

"Every conference game is so huge, and we knew coming into this that we're still trying to earn our way into the conference tournament, as only the four teams make it," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "I'm proud of the way they came out, and we fought and put ourselves in a good position throughout today. I'm really proud of our seniors, and when they got their opportunities, just stepping up, and everyone played great and with purpose and passion for the whole time. A good win for us. We know we have to do better in the second half. That's a trend for us, and we just have to continue to focus on the 60 minutes if we want to extend the season longer."

The Buffs caused 12 turnovers to the Aggies' five, had 21 groundballs to their 13 and won in the circle, 17-11. The three hat tricks from Pisani, Shoup and Ryan mark the second game this season where CU had three players with three or more goals.

After the game, Colorado honored eight of its graduating seniors: graduate attacker Kendall Havill, graduate goalkeeper Danielle Heintz, senior defender Katie McLean, senior defender Cooper Palm, senior attacker Sam Lipka, graduate attacker Morgan Pence, graduate attacker Madeline Pisani and graduate defender Jordan Johnson. Pisani reflected on the win and her class after the game.

"It's exciting that we got the win," Pisani said. "That's the most exciting thing. We're just trying to put ourselves in a position to keep our season going as long as possible. Some people just have to step up when it happens, and it was me today, and so it feels good, but what feels the best is getting a team win, especially for the seniors. […] I'm so proud of [the seniors]. They've all bought into different roles at different times, and that can be hard to do. […] Everyone has had a different story, but I'm proud of all of them for different things."
