The SEASON OPENER is almost upon us!

Women's basketball (Last season - 24-10 overall; 11-7 in Pac 12 play) starts off their 2024/25 campaign visiting the Wyoming Cowgirls (18-15, 11-7) in Laramie this coming Monday (Nov. 4th) starting at 5:30 PM MT, followed up with their home opener hosting the Univ. of Northern Colorado (UNC) Bears (15-16, 10-8) Thursday night.

Of course, it's probably totally worthless given changes, but in what looks like the final NET rankings (dated 4/7/24) for last season, CU ended at #15, Wyoming #115 and UNC #179.

Looks like the Wyoming gam is slotted to be on a Mountain West Network stream, while the UNC game (as I assume MANY home and Big 12 Conference games this season) is scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+ for those with a subscription to that paid subscription service. Go Buffs!!!

Can't wait for the season to begin. No matter how good or bad CU is, it is always a difficult game in Laramie. I am hoping for a win, but I just want to see them play.

Hopefully, no ice or snow for the drive home.

Colorado Opens 2024-25 at Wyoming

The Buffaloes hit the road to start the season on Monday

By: Seth Pringle, Athletic Communications

LARAMIE, Wyo. –
Colorado women's basketball kicks off its 50th anniversary season with a trip up north to Wyoming, opening the 2024-25 season on the road at Arena-Auditorium (5:30 p.m.).

The Buffaloes open the season with a true road game for the first time since going to Oklahoma State to start the 2021-22 campaign. CU opened last season with a 92-78 win over No. 1 LSU on a neutral court in Las Vegas. The Buffs are 45-5 all-time in season-openers and haven't lost an opener since 1999.

Wyoming opens the year slated to finish second in the Mountain West Conference in the preseason coaches poll. The Cowgirls went 18-5 last season and returned all five starters. Allyson Fertic was picked as one of the Mountain West's Co-Preseason Conference Players of the Year and was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List, as well as the Lisa Leslie Award Watch List.

Five Things to Know
  1. New Look Buffs – Colorado enters the 2024-25 season with 10 newcomers. It is tied for the second most newcomers in the nation, behind Clemson and Kentucky, which both have 11. Colorado is the only 2024 NCAA Tournament team to have double-digit newcomers. Frida Formann is the only returning starter from last season.
  2. International Flavor – Colorado boasts eight international players from seven different countries. It's the most international players in program history. The Buffs' eight is tied with Gonzaga for the second most in the country, behind UTEP's 10.
  3. Road Success – The Buffaloes went 8-4 in true road games last year, including their win over No. 15/16 Kansas State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
  4. Big 12 Honors – Freshman Tabitha Betson was voted the Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year. She's the highest-rated freshman in the conference this season, ranked No. 48 in the ESPN 100.
  5. Miller Watch List – Lior Garzon was one of 20 players named to the Preseason Miller Award Watch List for the top small forward in the nation. She scored 1,257 career points in her previous stops at Villanova and Oklahoma State. Garzon ranks fifth all-time at Oklahoma State with 140 career 3FGM.

Monday's game will be streamed online on the Mountain West Network or CUBuffs.com/WatchWBB.

Cory Lopez and Carol Callan will have pregame coverage starting 30 minutes before tip-off on the Colorado Radio Network.

Up Next: Northern Colorado (Nov. 7) .

Needs some patiences for this team. We have some individual talents, but it feels like they still don't know how to play together yet

Started flat footed on defense but got better. Not shooting well at all. 0-5 from 3 and only 25% shooting for the game.

Let's see if they can turn it around in the 2nd half. The W is still there for the taking if they can shoot even a little better.

... and as it always seems to be, we are playing against the refs as well. Could just be my black and gold glasses though.

Our talent advantage is too big for Wyoming to overcome. Always good to be able to win and learn.

I still have nightmares of when the Men went up to Laramie and laid a absolute egg, that is NOT a fun place to play. Good job Women!!!!

I have taken the Buff Bus in a snow storm to Laramie and watched the Buffs get beat.

I didn't think they played well. Must shoot free throws. That will kill them. Wetta has to score points. No one is making up Sherrod's points. We don't have a big. That's going to hurt big time in the Big 12.

Radio said while Frida is injured at present, she was scheduled to be with the Danish National Team at this time, so would not have been a factor in this game.

Sherrod was on the bench and she was on the court at practice on Sunday. Does anyone know if she is a grad assistant?

My concern prior to the start of the season was scoring from the perimeter. Obviously it hurts to not have Frieda healthy, but there needs to be a number of players step up consistently. Hope that happens soon rather than later.

Also, looks like they may have a problem dealing with strong post players.

Just watched the first half. They are better than I was expecting. Some key transfers are going to help this year.

I think the perimeter shooting will be there. 12 and 11 are both capable. Once Frida is back we should be fine.

No inside game is going to hurt us when the conference games start.

Buffs D was poor in the second quarter, but they are scoring almost at Will via UNC’s zone.

No Frida
No Peggy

Ceal getting a banner in CEC for lifetime achievement.

Watched in person. Buffs look like they have a lot of work to do to be competitive in Big XII play. They have some solid players but not the talent of the last two teams. They miss Frida's scoring at this point. She's in a boot and it's hard to tell how long it will be before she's ready to go.

More tomorrow.

Can't shoot free throws and can't shoot from behind the arc. Wetta plays great defense but isn't a scoring threat. We miss Jayden and her leadership.

I don't see a team leader. So far, I am not impressed.

Coach Barry was not told what was happening last night. Sheetz got her and some former players to go to the game. Whoever was supposed to do the ESPN broadcast didn't show, so she got roped into doing that. That's why Ceal was standing at half court looking like she didn't know what was happening. She didn't know what was happening.

Carol Callan said they realized they had to do it last night or wait until next season because Ceal is now a snowbird and is leaving next week to Florida for the winter.

Coach Barry is very deserving of the banner. Wish they had time to do a proper ceremony for her so more of her former players could have been there.

Watched a little of Iowa State's game. We are not beating Iowa State because we have no inside game to match with Crooks.
