It seems a little excessive to hold him out much longer. But I think the NCAA has actually decided to enforce their own rules since Myles Brand dies.
FIFY

Are the agents ever penalized? The NCAA and the NFLPA need to get together and figure something out on that front.
ATHENS – University of Georgia wide receiver A. J. Green must miss four games before being eligible to play again, the NCAA ruled late this afternoon.
Green was found to have violated the NCAA agent benefits rules by selling his Independence Bowl game jersey to an individual who meets the NCAA definition of an agent.
Green has repaid the $1,000 he received for the jersey to charity.
Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity said the school plans to appeal the decision to the NCAA Division I Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement in hopes of having Green’s suspension reduced.
He sat out last week’s season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette and also must sit out the next three games if the NCAA ruling stands.
As is procedural in matters such as this, the school declares the player ineligible and the NCAA determines how long he must sit out and the conditions of his return.
UGA released a statement from Green shortly after the NCAA decision came down: “I want to apologize to my coaches, teammates and the Georgia fans for the mistake in judgment. I very much regret all that has taken place and the distraction that’s been caused. I’ve learned a valuable lesson and hope others can learn from my mistake. I can only focus my attention now on practicing and looking ahead to getting back with my teammates as quickly as possible.”
Said Georgia coach Mark Richt: “Certainly I’m disappointed with the outcome. However, we have games to play, and that’s where our focus needs to be in the coming days and weeks. Other players will have to step forward and I’m confident they will do that.”

I agree. People love to jump on the players. As much as I'd like to think I'd turn down the money, I would probably take it. Especially at that age.
AJ out for four games.. Unfortunately his 5th game is at CU.
Brand is directly responsible for much of what went on the past 10 years or so, IMO. He was so lax on punishing the 'haves' that they could do just about anything without repurcussions.
So it seems to me, based on the SC penalties, that the NCAA is trying to finally level the playing field and enforce the rules uniformly.
I believe the agent can be penalized.....although i can't remember exactly how that works
The more I think about this, the more I think the NCAA is letting him off too easy...
I think the only reason that the NCAA is doing anything is that the Reggie Bush situation was so obvious and the media, especially Yahoo Sports, stuck to the story so firmly that they had no choice. Once they acted on the Bush deal they had no choice but to follow some of the obvious threads leading to other places as well. If U$C and Bush had made any kind of attempt at hiding what was going on none of this would have ever happened.
The next thing that happens is that one or more of the lower profile schools gets really hammered so the NCAA can say they are enforcing the rules, then they go back to letting the big boys slide.
I disagree. OU and OSU were equally blatant and out in the open. But they were settled before Brand died. USC was not.
I could be wrong, but the timing is awfully suspicious, as was the lack of punishment for the 'haves' while Brand was around.

Hopefully he's rusty...
