Interesting you’ve heard that “it wasn’t well received” by players because I’m sitting next to one right now and he has only seen what’s on Twitter.

weird they would only notify certain players and not all. Especially a senior.
Maybe he’s not in the loop.

I like the hire.

I’ll go on the record with that. There wasn’t much to choose from at this time. We were never going to get a slam dunk, we could only hope for the next Mel Tucker, and anxiously wait for them to bail on us. Karl is experienced, and has been a head coach. Has a Rolodex with a lot of experienced names. I’ll be patient.

Doesn’t really know who it is. I didn’t expect him to. He isn’t mad or anything just doesn’t know.

I think what a lot of people on message boards forget is that, unless the guy has some serious issues from his past that are public, these 18-22 year old kids really just care about if they get along with him well and if he can help them improve as athletes and individuals.
True and What I can remember is he is a good guy. He will get along with the players. I hope he can bring in some good coordinators and he may be a big surprise and make some of us feel stupid.

It’s been quite a while since his last head coaching gig, hopefully the recruiting game hasn’t passed him by. If he still has connections in California from his UCLA days he may do alright

Raise the tombstone, fellas. This program no longer has any hope of winning anything of note ever again.

The program survived Dan Hawkins (a widely praised hire at the time, btw), it can survive anything.

Seriously, take a deep a breath. Let’s see what happens after he meets with the players, how he handles the press conference, and what staff he puts together.

If players rush to the transfer portal after the meeting, he downplays recruiting at the press conference, and puts together a staff without a track record of success in recruiting, I’ll be worried.

But I cannot imagine that RG would hire someone who didn’t lay out an impressive plan to him.

We’ll see though.

Survived? Outside 2016 the program is an afterthought at best.

I find it comical people think high school kids know who most coaches are when in reality they probably know the top 10 coaches and then whoever has recruited them. They don’t know coordinators and assistants like us 35 year olds with nothing better to do

So did chuck did you like how that turned out?

It’s still alive.

The reason people are upset a 5-7 coach (that lost at home to Air Force) left (aside from the dbag manner he left) is that there was sincere optimism after the recruiting class. You don’t get hopeful for a dead program that hasn’t actually done anything on the field.
