LEAST Favorite Moments as a Buff Football fan.....

I can deal with almost every bad CU story, even coming up with a defense argument for many of them. However, the 2006 Nebraska game was atrocious. I was utterly ashamed of fellow CU fans - in particular the students at the game. I sat in the student section as an alum, and was amazed at how plain stupid and disgraceful the kids were. Sure, it wasn't all of the students, but it also seemed that the students that weren't throwing things on the field were doing nothing to stop it. I saw a girl wearing a Nebraska jacket being escorted out, crying after getting hit in the face with something (her face was red from a hit...who knows what). Talk **** to Nebraska, but all physical intimidation is ****ing retarded...especially hitting a girl, even if it was accidental. I would have gotten my ass handed to me by the masses, but I've never wanted so much to fight fellow fans in my life. I'm still embarrassed by that game.

Houston Bowl, last game with a personal tie.

Loosing to Baylor in Texas with several neighbors in attendance that went to Baylor.

I'm not saying it's right, 'cause it's not. But still, why on earth was the NB girl sitting in the CU student section? That's ****ing stupid.

In no particular order:

The 2006 Georgia loss just gutted me. The same team who lost to MSU and CSU weeks before all of the sudden dominates a Top 10 team on the road for 59 minutes - and loses.

1994 Nebraska. Probably the best CU team ever, magical season, and Nebraska just played really really well, especially on special teams. CU didn't convert a 3rd or 4th down the entire game. Destiny lost. We could have had a dynasty.

1989 Orange Bowl. A dream season ends badly against a true villan. On the biggest stage for the first time, and slipped. Poor coaching. Hagan's TD was magical.

2008 Missouri. 58-0, snaps the shutout streak, all of our flaws are exposed in humiliating fashion, boys vs. men. I felt like it was my first day in prison with someone very large and not opposed to sodomy.

2005 Texas 3-70. If I didn't hate Texas so much, especially their ignorant, conceited, delusional fans, I might be able to simply say, "Hey, that was possibly the most unstoppable player ever on a great team playing at the highest level.." and not feel shame. But the hit on Klatt and the rubbing it in makes me want to beat them more than any other team (except Nebraska).

1993 vs. Syracuse. Mitch Berger had a really bad day in that sandbox. A very good Buffs team dominates and loses due to place kicking on a big stage. Did I mention I hate losing because of kickers?

2000 vs. USC. CU looked very good, Houston looked like Salaam 2.0 and first time for the white unis. It just felt like an important game that we had to win. Last minute FG loss, sigh.

2000 vs. Iowa State. First loss to the Clones in a long time. Weird game, good snowfall, lots of mistakes. Sage Rosenfels is still running.

2001 vs. Fresno St. National stage, lots of hope about the season. Ochs channeled Brian Sipe at the end: INT in the end zone when we only needed a FG. Unbelievably, the loss hurt ten times more that December.

2005 vs. Miami. Long awaited payback attempt from 1993. Good start by a solid Buffs team (before it imploded that Novemeber). I hate giving bragging rights away to punks.

2007 vs. Iowa State. Robbery. We finally get some clutch kicking and it doesn't count - twice.

2008 vs. Texas A & M. Horrific playcalling negates a gutty effort in a game that was badly needed. The kind of loss that makes you wonder if you're even meant to win.

2008 vs. Nebraska. There's no way he's making this kick... Visited by the Ghosts of Lincoln past.

First off, Houston sucked. Worst city I've ever been to. We made our way to our hotel and by the time we got there, nothing was open. All I wanted was a ****ing cheeseburger but EVERYTHING was closed at like, 10:00 pm. We must have walked around for 3 or 4 miles (unsuccessfully) looking for food. All of this in what was then the fattest city in America. WTF!?

Because of the pain inflicted by this game, I'm going to allow you a small amount of latitude in inflicting collateral damage on my town. But tread lightly, GoldenBuff. The H-Town mafia here on AllBuffs will be coming for you, should you choose to continue this line of accusation. That is all.

Them there sounds like fight'in words!!!

5. 1999 Washington 31 CU 24 Blackout Brooks dropped the interception which would have resulted in a touchdown and turned the momentum back to CU. Dammit!

4. 2002 Wisconsin 31 CU 28 Kinda felt like a game CU should have dominated. And then towards the end it just felt like CU couldn't stop what I thought was a pedestrian Wisconsin team. That Hawtthorne DT for WIsconsin was fierce though. And it's the last time I stopped Sunshine pumping and started being a more critical fan. Two qb's: one the next Ty Detmer (colvin) the other a five star JC QB (hodge) and both sucked something fierce.

3. 2004 Baylor 42 CU 30 - "Fire his ass" were the words that came out my mouth that day

2. 1994 Nebraska 24 CU 7 - When ABC showed Kordell Stewarts "deer in headlights" look when the Buffs started near their own goal line in the 1st quarter the game was a wrap. The coaching staff had "DIH" syndrome too. I think sometimes of what could have been if things would have been different. 3 national title appearances in a 6 year span? Probably could have been the solidifying point for CU football as a national power.

And I do believe that the Cornhusker dynasty was rife with steroid usage. Those dudes were annihilating people. Punishing tackles, Olines blowing Dlines off the ball. Dlines manhandling Olines.....Dynasties typically produce some top notch NFL players and by and large that dynasty produced jack shizz

1. 1997 Michigan 27 CU 3 - I was a student at UM and I remember the morning of the game. I dressed up in my #14 jersey road jersey, black CU hat and black fleece pants and walked through campus. I smiled as everyone booed me on the way to Michigan Stadium. I had 2nd row seats in the student section and watched with glee when Hessler connected with Chris Anderson (I think) for a pass. I think that was the last time I smiled the remainder of the day. The rest of the game is a blur. I do remember leaving with about 10 minutes remaining in the game and having to take the walk of shame through the entire student section (remember I was in the 2nd row). I became an obvious target for marshmallows up steps and through the gates. Long day!

I've never watched a replay of that game. I just went to youtube and couldn't get past the Woodson interception in the 1st quarter.

Really? I live here and was in the stands, and it didn't seem like it was that hot of a day to me. The teens are reserved for July and August. Maybe it's the stadium storing the heat... You should come back when it's really hot! (9/1/06 - 122 degrees)

Maybe you didn't catch the part about the wool uniforms. That was the truly unfortunate part. 80 degrees in those is bad enough but 100+ is almost unbearable.

I guess saying it was the worst city I ever visited was a bit strong. I'm sure Houston is a perfectly fine place to visit/live but that night before the game was crappy because EVERYTHING was closed except for the bars and I was under 21. There was literally no food to be had within 2 miles of our hotel which seemed ridiculous in a major city. Also, Houston had been recently named the fattest city in America by some study so I thought it was outrageous that I couldn't find ANY food at all.

I'd be willing to give Houston another shot but my first visit was not a good one. Again, I concede that Houston is probably a nice place when it comes down to it. So, will you call off the dogs? Please???

How'd that work out for you in '94?

What's with the ****ing dissertations?

Losing to Drake twice was bad. But the one that tore my heart out was the loos to 'braska when we took the lead, kicked the crap assed squib kick right down to the middle toe the numb nutts 'braska guy who returned it to midfield and then they went down and made the FG. I'm thinking it was 2000.

I shall call a meeting of the 5 families, and put in a good word for you. Consider yourself on double secret probation...

Don't back down...Houston blows.

DB, You just made the list...

The one game people keep listing, but seemed to have little effect on me, was Montana State. Sure it was horrible when it happened - it was unthinkable. But my expectations for that season were so SO low. I really liked Brian White in the Champs Bowl the year before, but then he was gone, B-Jax I was not thrilled about, I knew the cupboard was bare, new coach, last game was the 3-70 ... it just didn't matter that much. I guess I kinda spotted Hawk 2006.

And for that matter, the 3-70 wasn't as bad as the others for me ... I think we all knew we'd lose to VY, plus UCLA was crushed by a similar score that day by USC ... and UT and SC were set for the CBA Ch-ship game.

Nothing's worse than losses in Lincoln in '00 and '08 ... the NC loss in 90, and the SC loss in '00. Them's the Big 4 for me :(

Holy crap...does the hit squad ever make its way up I-45? I had better take cover.

Perhaps sitting with a brother or sister who attended CU?? No excuse for physical abuse or intimidation of another fan. We want to think that we are great fans and act better than other fans-- then we should do that.

I sat in the student section back in the 99 game with NU that was the 'missed FG' game right next to a NU couple. Had a great time, and when the CU kids would start getting nasty, I would give them the look of death. being early thirties and better shape, they pretty much left us alone after the first quarter. Nice couple-- the kind of opposing fan that you like to have next to you at a game. Loved their team, but did not hate CU and was fun to talk football with.

I am sure they loved me that day after finding out they bought tickets in the student section!

The entire 2006 season, I felt like we had turned into Miami, but only ****tier. The whole program felt so sleazy, which is why I am such a Hawkins kiss ass now, even if we do not win, I feel proud to support our team.

On the positive note, the 1990 Washington game when the Huskies were in the red zone and Deon Figures made an interception to seal the win, the atmosphere was so tense in Folsom that day and then jubilation erupted. Just a great day to be a Buff.

Zach Wiegert-OT- 95-98 Rams, 99-02 Jags, 03-06 Texans
Brendan Stai-OG- 95-99 Steelers, 00 Jags, 01 Lions, 02 Redskins
Rob Zatechka-OG- 95-97 Giants. Quit football for medical school
Joel Wilks-OT- DNP
Aaron Graham-C-96-99 Cardinals, 01 Radiers, 02 Titans
Christian Peter-DT- 97-00 Giants, 01 Colts, 02 Bears

Obviously a few of them had some good years in the league. You'd think if they were on roids in college they would've bombed out or gotten caught in the NFL, not had 5+ year careers. As far as the rest of our d line, I'm not really sure why they never made it. Both D ends were ridiculously fast and athletic. Connealy as the other DT was just a tough farm kid with good size.

Peter not on 'roids? Right.
Well, younger brother was on painkillers, heroine, you name it. My point is that the proof is in the pudding. If they were on roids, they would've been busted in the NFL. If they got off them in the league, their performance would've suffered and they wouldn't have lasted a year. You've seen The Program, right? So because they were a ridiculously talented team they were on roids? Can I say the same about CU's 89-94 teams?

I personally believe we're kidding ourselves if we don't think that a large portion of football athletes, at any University or on any NFL team, use steroids.

It's not just a baseball problem...........

Nice attempt to deflect attention from your statement by changing the subject. My seven-year-old daughter does that all the time, too.
How am I changing the subject? I addressed my team and their possibility of using because someone accused them of being so strong and good. As I recall, you CU teams from that era were incredibly strong and good as well. So if that is the basis for steroid accusations, how am I changing the subject? Why couldn't you accuse every good team of it? Hell, I won 3 state titles in high school, you wanna accuse me of it too?

By responding to my comment about CPeter by suggesting good team = steroid use and implicating Buff teams from McCartney-Neuheisel eras.

Although I do agree fully with Buffmania, you flat-out stated that because CPete played in the NFL for five years it was unlikely he used 'roids.

Nice logic.

Thanks for the neg rep, though. Coming from a fusker that's a badge of honor.

My worst experience as a Buff football fan was the 2004 Big 12 Championship game against Oklahoma at Arrowhead Stadium. My buddy and I took a flight to KC on Saturday Morning, and stayed at a hotel just East of the stadium. We saw just one buff fan at our hotel. We made the mistake of going to Hooters for lunch. We walked in and it was a sea of red. However, they did give us a standing ovation for having the balls to invade their lunch spot. Back at the hotel they found out our room number, and were pounding on our door prior to and after the game that evening. The game sucked even worse. It was an effort that did not even come close the Fiesta Bowl loss against Oregon that would be my number two choice of least favorite moments.

welcome rep.....

welcome rep.....

Dammit! I wish I could have gotten here first. One of the worst things that can happen to somebody on their first post at Allbuffs is to confess to OU induced misery, and then--gasp--receive rep from a Sooner for all of the wrong reasons!

I'm a failure.

Rep to Balboa for the right reason. Welcome.
