CORVALLIS, Ore. — Two-thirds of the way through the Pac-12 schedule, Tad Boyle's Colorado Buffaloes are still tied for the league lead with an 8-4 conference mark (19-6 overall).

Still, in the wake of Thursday night's loss at Oregon, a game the No, 16/15 Buffs led for most of the second half, it's hard not to think about the fact that Colorado is 10 minutes away from being 21-4 overall and 10-2 in Pac-12 play.

That's five minutes against Oregon State and five minutes against Oregon, two games in which the Buffs had the lead with under five minutes to play.

Against the Beavers in early January, CU had a 66-62 lead — at home — with 4:10 on the clock, only to drop a 76-68 loss. Thursday at Oregon, CU had a 58-53 lead with 4:40 to play, but ended up on the short end of a 68-60 decision.

That's enough to cause sleepless nights for coaches and players.

But the reality is, the Buffs don't have the time to play the "what-if" game. Instead, they have an opportunity to earn a measure of redemption Saturday when they travel to Corvallis for an 8 p.m. meeting with the Beavers (15-9, 5-7) at Gill Coliseum (FS1).
...

"We have to bounce back," Boyle said. "That's my job as a coach, to make sure that happens and we come out Saturday with the eye of the tiger."

Collecting a win on OSU's home floor won't be easy. The Beavers are 10-3 in Gill this year and have wins over Oregon and Utah in their last two outings. They are led by 6-foot-7 senior forward Tres Tinkle, who is fifth in the Pac-12 in scoring in conference games (16.83 ppg) and 13th in conference rebounding (6.42 rpg). The Beavers also have a quality point guard in junior Ethan Thompson (14.17 ppg, 3.83 assists) and the league's leading shot blocker in 7-0 senior Kylor Kelley.

The Buffs will need better production through the lineup than they had against Oregon. While they did get a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double from sophomore forward Evan Battey and 14 points and five rebounds from junior guard D'Shawn Schwartz, their "big two" — McKinley Wright IV and Tyler Bey — were both scoreless in the second half.

"This game means something to Oregon State," Boyle said. "They're in desperation mode. Tres Tinkle is a senior, he wants to go to postseason play just like every other player in our league. Nothing's given. You have to go take it."

TIPOFF: Saturday's game is set to tip off at 8 p.m. at Gill Coliseum.

THE SERIES: Colorado holds a 15-9 all-time series lead, with OSU owning a win in their first meeting in Boulder earlier this year. The Beavers hold an all-time 6-3 edge in Corvallis, including three wins in the last four games.

BROADCAST: The game will be televised by FSN with Aaron Goldsmith and Casey Jacobsen. The radio broadcast will be carried by 850 AM and 94.1 FM KOA, with Voice of the Buffs Mark Johnson and Scott Wilke.

UP NEXT: The Buffs return to Boulder next week for their final two home games of the year when they host USC on Thursday (7 p.m.) and UCLA on Saturday (2 p.m.).

Stop the stupid turnovers. I'm thinking about two guard-like bench players. Really made me angry during UO game and the lousy ball control.

I don't know how much practice time they get on the Friday between weekend road trips ... but I sure hope they worked on in-bounds plays and breaking presses. Time for the assistant coaches to earn their salaries!

Georgetown beat Butler and 3 of their players played the full 40 minutes. Dont see why some of our guys cant do this occasionally.

Going into these last 7 games 4-3 was a realistic and modest expectation but we really need a win to tonight to keep that within reach.

Everybody, you, the coaches, the players, knows what's coming. Can Tad get these guys past the press?
When we are hitting from outside, the whole game changes - be great if we have that tonight.

This broadcast is going to be really really interesting. Tad is already pissed.

Beevs getting turned over in bunches. We're going to need more, this game is going to be a dog fight.
