The SOCCER team (6-4-1, 1-1-1) should have fun the next few days as they have probably their most challenging pair of matches of the season this weekend as they head off to La La Land to face off against #11 USC (8-2-0, 3-0-0) tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon, followed up with a Sunday matinee against #3 UCLA (10-0-1, 2-0-1).

Both matches are scheduled to be shown on the Pac 12 Networks.

LOS ANGELES—Colorado soccer takes to the road this for a pair of matches in the City of Angeles. The Buffaloes will open with No. 11 Southern California (5 p.m. MT) and then face No. 3 UCLA (1 p.m. MT). Both matches will be on the Pac-12 Networks.

CU (6-4-1, 1-1-1 Pac-12) split last weekend, earning a Thursday win against Washington before dropping the weekend finale to Washington State on Sunday. The split gave the Buffs four points through the first three Pac-12 matches of the season. Colorado currently is situated in the middle of the pack with plenty of soccer left to play.

"The great thing with the Pac-12 is it always gives you more opportunities to get results," head coach Danny Sanchez explained. "We're excited to get out there [Los Angeles]."
...

"I think the pressure might have gotten to us a little bit on Sunday," Sanchez noted. "I think that these are games that we have nothing to lose and everything to gain. We're going to go into it loose and excited."

Part of that excitement is the fact that this weekend will feel like home to many of the Buffs. CU has 13 players from California, many of whom are within driving distance to LA.

Match notes - Not available as I type this

Buffs give up an early goal in the 5th minute. (Not one the defense- goalie room will use as an example of how to defend, as it was kind of a soft goal.)

Nice centering pass gives the trojans their 2nd goal, this one in the 12th or 13th minute.

A WICKED shot to the top left corner by the Trojans top striker in the 21st minute that our goalie had NO chance to stop gives the trojans a 3-0 lead.

I missed the rest of the match, but looks like the Buffs played them even (at least scoring-wise) after the 3rd usc goal I noted above, with the final being 1-4. Hope they can carry that later energy forward so they give the #3 Bruins a great fight on Sunday.

(Was curious, so looked at the Media Guide, and it looks like Coach Sanchez is just a couple seasons (fates willing) from catching up to former Coach Hempen for most matches led by a Buffs' soccer head coach. I'm calculating (dangerously, in my head) the later had 230 matches (From the 2001 through the 2011 seasons) as Buff's head coach.)

Wasn't able to watch the match, but from live stats looks like it was a nice CU effort that ended in heartbreaking fashion. UCLA led 0-1 heading into the half, then the Buffs tied it 1-1 in the 74th minute, which is where it stood at the end of regulation. Unfortunately, with less than 4 minutes to go in the 2nd and final OT period, the Bruins notched the match winner.

Hopefully the team will continue to improve, which should lead to some wins, (especially when NOT playing the #3 ranked team in the country).
