Meet our new conference commissioner, Brett Yormark

He looks like an underweight Hank Schrader from Breaking Bad.

Does he brew his own beer?

Yes, but he won’t add UTEP to the conference.
Severed Head on tortoise is a terrible look for media relations.

BY seems to be a very smart guy and and I think we can all be pleased to have Klatt as the major conspicuous face of CU in the national media. Reflects well on the school. An A+ guy.
 
One thing I didn't comment on while all this was going on is that while BY has a penchant for being aggressive in the media and planting stories, pressing conferences & universities and throwing out ideas which haven't been fully baked in order to keep the spotlight on the Big 12 (sometimes in ways I haven't liked)... one thing I noticed is that he was uncharacteristically quietly patient and consistently complimentary of CU and Coach Prime. How I read those tea leaves is that he was giving space and avoiding anything which might turn us off while being confident that at the end of the day CU was going to see what he and the Big 12 was offering as a much better relationship than anything the Pac-12 was going to be able to put on the table.

I think that when you watch this talk he had with Klatt and Klatt's separate piece on CU's Big 12 move the main takeaway for me is how they're both pushing the factor stability and how Yormark understood he needed to secure that by going to the networks early and by doing that also cut off the Pac 12, which still prefers to wait for the day that may well never come and has been doing just that for 10 years.

GK was dealt a ****ty hand and noone should blame him for the mess the Pac 12 finds itself in (although he certainly did nothing to fix it, either), but when I see that GK assumed his position in early 2021 and that Yormark on the job for less than a year I kinda do wonder what the status quo would be if Yormark had gone to the Pac 12 and if he would have found a prevent to stop the LA schools from bolting.

If Yormark was in the shoes of GK I still think USC and UCLA would have bolt BUT Yormark would have most likely raided Kansas, Texas Tech, OSU and one more.

Strong disagree. Not a slam on BY at all either, I just don’t think that the minority of presidents that are blocking expansion would have moved for anyone. The two/three schools blocking expansion are the biggest reason the P12 is where they are now (non-Larry Scott division).

In all this, a fundamental difference is that the Big 12 members had a sense of urgency, passion to survive and prosper, and were generally unified in their desired outcome. He wouldn't have gotten that with the Pac-12.

Just one example is that Yormack would have said that there only 4 brands in the Pac-12 region the conference didn't have that grew market engagement in PTZ/MTZ and can generate a national rating since they're often ranked: BYU, Boise State, San Diego State and Fresno State. Beyond that, UNLV represents an untapped market in the footprint and has some basketball cache. That's it. The reaction to that would have been votes against and even offense taken that these schools - which are so far beneath the top of the conference academically - would even be suggested. Also, they didn't want more competition for SoCal recruits.

That jibes with what McMurphy told 365 sports on Friday (that's the Baylor show on youtube)-he said CU was gone several weeks ago.

Yormark has basically hit on everything he's done since he's taken over there-let's see what happens moving forward.

I know it's Baylor, but 365 Sports is a great Podcast. They tend to get really good guests and you would never know they're out of Waco other than hearing local commercials. Since Colorado is back in the Big12 they're a great resource for not only B12 sports but national headlines too.

They had Mandel on the segment right before McMurphy on Friday by the way. That in itself should tell you a lot. .
