Mike Bohn to head UC AD

Bohn was the one who extended Hawkins after an 11-19 record in the middle of the season. So the reason he couldn't fire him was technically his fault. Also LOL at the balanced budget, considering we're 20mil in the hole largely due to two failed football coaches
I suspect Bohn was in a rough spot. DiStephano didn't exactly prioritize championships over balanced and frugal budgets, and there was some leadership dysfunction with the Hawkins dismissal that isn't all on Bohn.

Disagree that "any" AD gets us to the pac-12 just based on the Gen-pop there are a lot that would have simply tried to negotiate a better deal from the Big-12 rather than move, the folks that love the "tradition" of CU as a big-8/12 school, in the older money'd CU fan set there are many more people that would have been happy with that than we want to realize. I am not saying there wasn't momentum for the Pac-12 move but to negotiate it out and execute it well while getting a full share from the first moment of the new media deal was good work.

The only way we don't end up in the Pac is if we hired an AD that is as good at conference alignment as Mike Bohn was at hiring coaches.

Slider is showing an incredible lack of historical perspective. Bohn had his faults, but he was by far the best AD this school had ever had prior to that. Crowder nearly bankrupted the department, Marolt did absolutely nothing to capitalize on the best run of Football success the school had ever achieved, Tharp ran a good-old-boys network that alienated the rest of the school and created an environment where the first bump in the road led to a catastrophic collapse of the football program. Rick George may yet turn out to be even better, but Bohn did some very good things for this athletic department at a time when it was not easy to get anything done there.

He'll do very well at UC, so long as he doesn't have to hire any football coaches. That was definitely Bohn's Achilles heel.

I don't think you have a good appreciation for how much of our fan base longs for the old way of doing things, and the fact it did actually take vision and execution to make that move. The safe play would have been to threaten the move renegotiate our deal and stay put.

All those AD's sucked so bad that we were ~15th in All-Time wins until Bohn came along. I know Marolt? cut sports and I'm sure there are negatives to everyone but... Football is King.

Sacky drinking before 9am again. The only reason that the needle is moving on facilities is because RG took over the ship. Bohn was too nice, too sales-ey, and made poor hiring decisions. The only good hires he made, he literally fell into.

Really? IIRC when the PAC rumblings started about 90% of the interwebz was in favor of the move. Obviously that isn't everyone who is important, but a lot of people were tired of Texas and the Big 12.

The interwebz massively over represents the younger louder more digitally comfortable fan.

So the basketball/volleyball facilities don't count?

I'm entertained by the revisionist history involved with Mike Bohn's tenure at CU. How soon people forget the dumpster fire that the entire athletic department was when he got here.

And I'm not sure you know the meaning of "literally". Are you actually saying he fell down, and Linda Lappe and Tad Boyle happened to be there on the street?

Slider hates every fiber of MB's being and has gone out of his way in the past to prove it. Bohn could have walked on water and Slider would have given credit elsewhere.

Well when football is 90% of the job description for AD at CU and he failed miserably, then yes he deserves hate. And sure he built basketball/vball facilities. But that's ignoring the fact that nearly every other bcs school drastically improved facilities too. And didn't he partially get fired because he was destroying any hopes of football facilities in the near future?

Seems like a good fit. They are desperate for the exact thing he accomplished here. I wish him well. If not for the Hawk extension, I would not have ill feelings for the man. Certainly he was at the helm when the pack came calling and he didn't screw that up. He also kept out of the way and allowed the ski and cross country teams to stay great. These are things that are near and dear to me, and for that I am thankful to him.
The Hawk extension was the right move at the time.

Wait... football is 90% of the job description for AD? Since when? Hell, if that were truly the case, just have the head football coach be the AD. I mean what the hell is another 10%, right?

Fundraising, ticket office, facilities, public relations, budgeting, marketing... bah - unimportant.

Deserves more credit for basketball than you're giving him, coming from where it was before he got here to where it is now, that's his legacy. Unfortunately, football is at the lowest point too. Dr. Phil said he wanted someone who run CU athletics as more of a business.

If football isn't successful at CU, it's very unlikely the rest of the AD will be since it's the big revenue producer.

IMO, the football failures under Bohn far outweigh the other successes. However, I believe he was largely handcuffed by our inept administration that was focused solely on a balanced budget and not keeping the AD competitive. I'd like to believe the administration has changed their tune, but I'm not holding my breath. Positive signs with RG and all, but the intense failure over the last decade means they need to show me their commitment on a long term basis before I will believe.

Cincy is pretty much a done deal for the Big 12.

Bohn's going to come out of this looking like a conference realignment specialist AD.

Next stop: Fort Collins
I disagree, who are they paired with UConn? Geography isn't in there favor. If they were located in Texas, they'd have a good chance.

So hypothetical here for the "Bohn wasn't so bad" crowd... what happens if MacIntyre doesn't work out? Are you finally off the bandwagon after 3 failed football coaches?

Meh. If his one crown jewel is basketball I can give him credit for that. I think any other AD could have us in the Pac-12 right now. His problem is he couldn't find a good football coach if one was sitting on his lap. 3 schools and 5 coaches, none of which had anything close to winning records. How many other AD's extend a HC in the middle of the season? After 5 total wins? Then hires Embree. Then has his hands so far down Jones' pants for 3 days that we end up hiring a HC that they didn't even interview in person iirc. Fail. So yes, he sucked. IMO.
Even if that's the case, he still gets credit IMO. Some people benefit from being at the right place at the right time.

I thought Hawk was extended after his second season if that's who you're referring to. Also, I don't think he wanted Embree so much as it was being pushed on him. But if they aren't going to let the AD hire the football coach, they might as well hire a different AD.

How so? How many other AD's extend coaches 3 games into the season? We couldn't have waited until the end of the year?
The one who beat Oklahoma/Nebraska in the same season, was getting other offers, and looked like things were heading in the right direction.

This was year 3 after WVU. Do you really think he gets an extension if Bohn waits it out and Hawkins goes 5-7? You don't get other offers 3 games into the season
