First of all, it is always great to get a win over CSU! Here are a few of my thoughts on the game: I was pleased overall with the defense. The DB's and LB's looked great and give hope of keeping the Buffs in some games when the offense is struggling. We are going to need more pressure from the D-line...Pete had way too much time to throw, and better, more experienced quarterbacks the Buffs will face will shred the defense in the zone holes in future games if we don't start getting more heat on the QB!
After the scripted plays, we executed a very vanilla game plan, which is a credit to the players for their overall dominance over CSU. We were never threatened after the 2nd quarter, which allowed the Buffs to save a bunch of surprises for Cal. There are of course some execution issues that need to get ironed out, but we moved the ball on an experienced CSU defense (that dominated our offense last year) all day without too much trouble (excluding our own stupid penalties). The line needs to continue to work on opening bigger holes and providing better protection, but one of the biggest breakdowns i saw was BLock's pass blocking was terrible...it may be time for JT Torres to step in as the second back because of his more physical nature.
The coverage teams continue to be shaky...CSU was one tackle away from breaking a long return on both punts and kick offs a couple of times! The better teams we play this season are going to score some return touchdowns if we don't get that problem squared away. The return teams have some electricity factors again, and I think it will just be a matter of time before Patterson takes one to the house! Goodman, who I have been hard on over the years, actually looked good and may have finally overcome his mental obstacles. I loved the blocked field goal!!! How long has it been since the Buffs have done that??...I am thinking not since Tyler Brayton's playing days at least!
You all think CSU was terrible, and they will not be great, but I expect them to thump Wyoming this year...the same Wyoming team that we beat last year and who went to a bowl game last season. I think the Ewes will go 5-7 or 6-6...not great, but better than most people on this board are giving them credit for.
