Official 2023-24 MBB Season Thread

That sounds like a topic that, ya know, might be part of blog post, maybe about college basketball and the buffaloes in particular, ya know maybe you know someone that occasionally writes up their thoughts on those topics

Psyched about Drew being big lead-guard CU needs to make noise in tourney-multiple years-like they will this year! Deep & talented this year-but multiple-years recruiting boons- plus our elite player development -should keep us making noise in tourney!

Still think we need 2nd combo guard- with depth of ‘24 -like Mikey Williams, Del Jones, or under-rated Zion Walker?

NEED Rancik’s elite shooting, handling & passing. But elite skills of other ‘24 combo Fs still on table: Chris McDermott’s toughness, Jordan McCullum’s mobility & versatility, Jaxson Ford’s rebounding, & Chris Mason’s inside-out game.

Feels like CU waits ‘till ‘25 for post, but impressive ‘24 big men still available:Makhan Diouf, Luke Bamgboye & Jaheem Weber.

Luv jumbo combo guards to play 1-3 w/ Drew to take us to championship level: Jalik Dunkley-Distant’s downhill game & shooting; Felix Kossaras’s potential as elite defender & shooter may be better fit; & Seven Bahati’s energy, contagious love for the game & elite open-court athleticism. Defending the 3-spot in small-ball key! Rancik/Diop/Dak vs. bigger Small Fowards?

Seems like CU team to beat for Rancik?

Top 10-15 class? Especially if 4th spot opens: Felix Kossaras has to be top target?

But LUV CU’s chances to get in:
-Top 4 w/ Del Jones, Makhachkala Diouf & Luke Bangboye?
-Top 3 w/ Mikey Williams & Jalik Dunkley-Distant?
-Top 2 w/ Jaheem Weber?
-Top choice w/ Zion Walker & Seven Bahati?

Forgot my favorite and the bunch, maybe outside of 7-footer Diouf: Point Del Jones!

Dude, is there any evidence we're recruiting ANY of the guys you listed?

Also, shouldn't we have at least 4 spots open?

Losing LOB, TDS, Lampkin, and Hadley. Possibly losing Williams.

Feels like Tad should be planning on filling at least 5 spots.

Tads said publicly it’s LOB and TDS last year, haven’t seen anything about Lampkin or Hadley. Wouldn’t be shocked if we get one or both to kick tires on the 24-25 squad.

I’d think it more likely we lose a young in that doesn’t play a bunch or falls out of rotation IE (Hurlburt, Smith, etc)

Tad said at his press conference a few days ago that Hadley will be a Junior this season.

I think the challenge in predicting who will stay for 5th year, not only includes if they will use their Covid year (juniors now are last class to get covid year), but what they want to pursue in grad school. If they transfer to another school, they get two years of grad school paid for, versus staying at the same school they only get one year of grad school paid for. Some graduate programs are only one year, and some are two years long. But players can always pursue a second bachelors, or second minor, if they want.

Seems like Hadley

Oops: Hadley may leave, but Lampkin stays at Colorado a 2nd year? Really hope Javon Ruffin gets healthy & stays at CU (his game has always reminded me of Utah Utes/NBA’s Andre Miller‘s), but w/ injury status- seems like we need to have a fourth recruit (Kossaras), at the least (Tad used to always say, he would ask players families with the financial means, to pay for a year of school themselves if he over-recruits a spot). All it takes is 1 buff to transfer, but seems unlikely that we need 5th recruit. Seems like Cody stays at least 2 years (chose CU Primarily for development aspect, so I would be very surprised to see him leave after one year).
